I take the new Sony ZV-E1 out for a day exploring New York City. Let's see how the ZVE1 does for battery, image quality, how it compares to the A7S3 and other Sony cameras, and more.

About the audio: I left it as it comes out of the camera with just boosting the gain a bit and didn't edit it. You can of course edit it and get it to sound better but I wanted to leave it this way so you can hear what it sounds like from the camera. Again, I recommend the mic I did in the video personally to save a lot of hassle :) Hope you enjoyed the video regardless and found it helpful!

EDIT: Apparently, I uploaded the wrong version of the video where the audio is topping out in some places. Sorry, guys. Hope it's not so bad as to make it hard to watch 🤦‍♂️

Loved the pictures and review. The nighttime photography was amazing and the opinion on the Sony was really interesting and informed. The highline walk looks visually stunning. Thanks for the update and the in-depth review.

Oh look, the metro looks like they show in movies with metro ! They didn't lie !
Thanks for taking us to see Chelsea.
Articulated screens on cameras are a blessing.
"There's a lot of features here in this camera that are specifically for the solo shooters" - they know we are forever alone and that we will be doing everything on our own.
Restore the elevated line to transit people and build one more floor above it for the cars ! We live in XXIst century ! We need our traffic separated vertically like we are building our skyscrapers higher and higher !

The tracking of subjects and potential subjects all around the main subject is really impressive indeed. And the active framing on top of that !
13:42 - sexy building

Really enjoyed. Minor things: when adding stuff like stabilization ON, + Dynamic Active and "stabilized in post" I would love to see longer scenes like 6 seconds instead of maybe 1.5 to 2 seconds to have more time to process the effects that has on the image AND more clearly indicated on the screen. At some point I randomly noticed "stabilized in Post". Also, there a few scenes where the camera was very shaky or the image pulsed etc and come commentary on that would have been helpful. Also, I **think** that some of the biggest advantages to full frame is the wider angle of view really complements Auto Framing and stabilization that crops in up to 30% so the wider angle of view you start with the better. Finally, I'm not an FF snob but it makes sense to put as much distance from cell phones as possible regarding sensor size.

Another fantastic video. And yes please, I'd love to see more variety of products in your style of reviewing/closer look. ✌🏻

Great video. FYI - active or dynamic stabilization is much better when using Sony lenses. 3rd party lenses like those from Tamron or Sigma don’t work nearly as well with those modes. It’s jarringly better

Another great review! I myself personally have not used an actual camera for years now, but this camera has caught my interest to go back to one!

What do you think about the kit lens? The biggest problem with this camera that I can see from the reviews is that all/most of the full frame lenses available for this camera are heavy and big. Using one of those lenses kind of defeats the purpose of buying the small light weight ZV E1, at least as a daily carry around camera.

I am using A7IV (with Tamron 35-150mm) and I love it but as I am exploring more videography and looking for a lighter camera, I ordered ZV-E1 as my video camera.

I saw you are using Tamron 20-40 F2.8 but what’s your opinion about Sony 20-70 F4? My themes are mostly “life on the campus”, “dinner with co-students”, “socializing around”, “family holiday”, and “summer day outing in town”, sort of.

I use the Tamron 20-40 F2.8 with my Sony ZV-E1 too! Also, I’ve been looking for an ND filter, what do you recommend? I heard that a 67mm filter on this lens causes vignetting at 20mm. Is that true? I was looking at the PMVND with Mist Filter.

It crushes the mobile videos I've seen on your channel so far, I'll go back and watch the Xperia video again just to be sure.
Edit: the Xperia still like good, just not as good

Great video!! Love this format. Most helpful and illuminating. Also, did you mention you’d share a link for the mic you were using?

Thanks David - you've done a good job of proving I'm not interested in cameras! BUT, the Explore was, as always, wonderful, so I stuck around just for that 😉

The reason I’d get this if I do is the dynamic active stabilisation which is best around, albeit comes with a crop.
