I bought a MILL! | Little Machine Shop 6450

So I bought a new mill for the home shop! I've been searching for the past few months to find one that is the right size for my house. I plan on using it for car and house projects where machining is required. I ended up purchasing, the LMS 6450, Premium Tool Kit, and the Base.

With the quality of aftermarket parts today, I needed a way to make modifications to what is purchased. Probably 25% of the parts that I am purchasing for my cars do not fit "correctly" and need to be modified to make fit. With this tool, I can finally do that.

I've already been using it in the background in a few of my videos. Mainly installing the trunk on the GTM and installing the hood on the Factory Five GTM.

That machine is so cool. It's perfect for a hobbyist, perfect to make all kinds of custom parts for the car. I want one!! :)

Measuring tools good sir - caliper and dial/test indicators. Get a deburring tool (I like the Noga ones), and countersinks.
Nice to see it's R8 though, will make finding used tooling super easy.

Great Video, I am working on purchasing a 6450 as well. There was a great sale on a Shop Fox M1116 Mini Mill at Grizzly, but I have heard too many negatives about the tilting head, and also it does not support Reverse, so not good for tapping operations. The DRO on it is a very basic wired X, Y, Z indicator which I have on my Grizzly Lathe as well. It's OK for the lathe, but I think the tablet would be much more useful on a Milling machine. After watching your video and the capabilities of the blue-tooth DRO for hole patterns, I am definitely sold on the 6450 vs. the Shop Fox M1116. Thanks for showing that! I was actually a bit intimated by looking at the tablet DRO link provided by Little Machine Shop, but your video was a great demo.
You mentioned stocking up on materials. I have found it is best to find a local Steel retailer, rather than Home Depot and other HW stores, or even Amazon. I sort through their scrap pile and find perfect plates, Angle, square stock at $0.60/pound. Just picked up a foot square 3/8" inch plate weighing around 8lbs., which set me back $4.80. Same plate on Amazon is about $30. These are not rusty 'scrap' material from a scrap yard, they are just odd pieces left over from other orders. The place I use locally in Redmond, Oregon is Swift Steel. Hope that helps.

Just found your channel, very cool. Just remember you can make most of the tooling you are going to need with the very machine your buying them for! Let your inner cheap skate win, with some reading and indicators to double check setup is accurate you'll save thousands on tools.

You owned it for 5 months now, what are your thoughts on the 6450?

If you have not already, do yourself a favor and get a smaller vice, that vice is overkill for that machine and just eating your Z and Y travel. For most projects on that size machine I used one of the tool-makers or grinding vices instead.

When I see people using WD40 as lubricant then I can't take them serious anymore 😂. People that use WD40 like this are morronic Clowns in my eyes 🤡your opinion about this machine lost every meaning at that point to me🤣
