Bringing back a vast empire like the Eastern Rome from the plague to a functional state is already quite an achievement. I just keep wondering what if Justinian focused all his effort into administration and the prosperity of the existing territory, instead of grand conquest. The man is definitely talented in statecraft.

The concept of hypostatic union and dyophysitism debated in Council of Chalcedon is so abstract. I still couldn't wrap my head around its meaning or why is it so significant in their faith.

You might want to chick out this video called "When did the Romans think Rome Fell?", by The Historian's Craft. It was a real eye opener on the rubs your were talking about with the Romans accepting tyke Gotha.
