I use SPD shoes that are a bit less stiff, so I don't waddle when I'm off my bike!

I use super light but warm running shoes plus flat paddles.

I hate falling over on a climb and having to clip in at a 10% incline.

Ive tried all three and i gotta say clipless feels the best. MTB pedals just wear out too fast and have a vague connection point.

I just did a half distance Ironman and we had a dude finish the bike in 2:55 wearing runners. To be fair he did crush T2

I have to use flats a lot because sometimes the rentals just dont work out for my shoes ....no matter how much I make sure ahead if time. and everytime, it sucks. just pushing for hours gets really inefficient and annoying if youre used to having a full range of options for long rides. when the top of your leg starts to ache...you have no option but to slow way down to recover. you end up standing a lot more to relieve the muscles, and standing with flats is also ridiculously inefficient

Clip less with recessed mountain bike shoes best of both.

Flat pedals are absolutely awful. Ever since I went clipless I would never be able to go back. Have ridden around town with normal shoes on once or twice and it was so annoying when your foot just loses contact with the pedals all the time. The real comparison should be between clipless and mtb pedals, I think for slippery terrain and coffee stops its the more practical solution, but I love the feeling of being firmly clipped in with clipless pedals

They will be better if the technique is different, i have ise both a lot and actually there is only diference if you apply force in both ways... Not just pushing down

Are there clipless setups where the pedals don’t flip upside down every time you unclip?? I HATE mine because of that.

Flats all the way, foot retention just reduces comfort and gives you odd injuries.
