m7 Chords - How to use Quartal Harmony in a Solo

Quartal harmony and Quartal arpeggios are a great sound to also have in your vocabulary and especially on m7 chords. They also really fit with the sound you get when you super-impose pentatonic scales on chords, so that's a great way to approach it.

This video is going over some examples, how you can use them in for m7 chords in your own solos drawing from examples of players like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein, and Allan Holdsworth.

Very cool topic Jens! I love fourths on saxophone (Jorre speaking here this time), but I guess it's less self-evident on a guitar because of the strings in fourths. Bob Mintzer has a very cool etude with play-along in his book "14 Jazz & Funk" exercises.

Hope you get all the guitarplayers to play more fourth lines, would make the world a hipper and happier place! :p

(Guys, pay close attention to Jens here!)

A greeat lesson, I just started charting harmonized major and minor quartal 4 note chord shapes. I was not aware of the pentatonic connection and love the triads...! Very modern sound a and the new shapes are not that bad... 😎. Thank You!
