Plot twist: Grandmas just mad she’s been knitting sweaters with the wrong name on them for years, not the actual name change.

I asked my mom tell my grandmother that I was non-binary, and I was really scared that my grandmother would hate me or ignore me, that she would see me completely differently.
Thankfully, she mainly took it well and is trying to use they/them pronouns and not refer to me as my deadname anymore. :)

Me being a genderfluid bisexual with homophobic/transphobic parents: this. This is the dream

Why do people care so much? Charlie isn't even that different, many people named Charlotte go by something like Charlie or Lottie

If my grandparents found out:

Beta, what the hell are you talking about?

Edit: I swear to fvck if y’all ask me if my name is beta.

My grandma just sat there stunned and I was worried she was mad I was non binary, but the next day she visited my room with a rainbow sweater that said “proud”

I had to have my grandma understand what they them pronouns were by just telling her to refer to me as a swarm of bees.

My grandma told me, I don’t know what you are but I’ll always love you, and she’s good at the he/him pronouns but the they/them is a little harder for her. She’s honestly so sweet and she calls me her favourite grandchild instead of granddaughter

I have an extremely transphobic grandmother so this reminds me of when my transgender brother named Charlie whose dead name is Charlotte came out

My middle offspring just super bravely told *everyone* they’re gender non-binary and is now going by Alyx. I’m super blown away as I was very very invested in my in-the-closet-bunker regarding my Bi status until I was 38. Just wow, I’m so proud of them! My generation is all fine with it, but my Nana & Ghee (their only great-grandparents) are VERY confused. He’s almost 91, she just turned 88, and they were raised by very “boys do boy stuff, never girl stuff, and vice versa. ANY deviations from traditional norms is cause for bearings and so much church shaming, ” people. They’re being as kind as always to my Middle, but I’m getting SO MANY QUESTIONS! Most of which are answered, “I can ask Alyx. I identify as female so I don’t know all the reasons and feeling behind their announcements. The easiest way to explain it is clothes, makeup, nail polish, jewelry, activities, etc don’t have a gender. People like to assign a gender to things, but that’s dumb because they’re just things wo a base gender. You’re fine w my Pre-K son wearing bring red nail polish w gold flakes even tho he’s a he, right? Because it’s just nail polish, it makes him super happy, and who cares if a boy has pretty nail’s ? It’s like that, but for everything.”

Anyone who is able to explain this a little better to grandparents in their 90’s is more than welcome to comment and offer advice! My kids are my kids and I’m going to support them no matter what, and so are my grandparents/their great grandparents. No one is going to get shamed, disowned, or sent to any kind of “you’re actually a single gender person you’re just confused, ” therapy because that’s an inexcusable way to treat your (or anyone else’s!) offspring. So! If that’s your big contribution to the conversation I *will* blatantly ignore you. Same for anyone asking about my child’s genitalia. When the actual f**k did it become acceptable to ask what is in a child’s (or anyone’s, really) underwear or attempt to determine what gender someone else is in any way?!

My 87(?) Year old oma is trying her best and I can't help but find it a lil funny when she introduces me as her grandson and then calls me she.
Example "that's my grandson, shes over for the week quilting"
Obviously not entirely word for word but shes doin her best
