Today we make two different versions of the same beat. One using only live instruments, and the other using only plugins. Which version shall reign superior? I hope you all enjoy :)

This is a pretty good video.
A drummer’s take:
Personally I prefer the sound of live instruments. I think there’s something fairly objective that you didn’t mention, though, that being the time. Most of the video is dedicated to programming the instruments, whereas a minute or two at the start was dedicated to composing for and playing the instruments. Of course, composition takes a lot of time, but it would take that time either way, so neglecting that, if a person is half-decent at playing a few instruments, it’ll probably be quicker to lay something acoustic down if that’s what they’re looking for. I also find it easier to compose for real instruments, but that’s style, which is another, probably more subjective point. I don’t think most people would think of something acoustic-sounding to program. It has the potential for a very different sound, of which there’s not too much overlap with what you can do with live instruments. I don’t think there’s a great way to compare those two different composition styles, though, because they’re not incredibly similar. The few times I composed with midi or in a DAW, I found myself drawn to sounds I can’t make with acoustic instruments because it opened those opportunities for me.
But yeah. Long comment. You’re welcome for the engagement (I know, I’m great), and I will be checking out the rest of your channel. Feel free to refute this if you want, I enjoy some musical discussion.

That was so smart to program the shaker as such

Different vibes for sure, some of it’s a mixing thing and maybe deeper finessing, I think, sometimes plug-ins will work better for the vibe, or real playing will work better if you want a more organic feel.
