If you need to connect a SSD or HDD to your PC externally using a USB adapter is one of the easiest ways to achieve this. The reason for doing is might be for cloning an old drive to a new drive or just backing up important files. I hope this video is helpful and if you need any help let us know via the comments below, thanks.

I made a how to video about this around 4 years ago, but technology has since moved on so here's an updated version.

Computers are so complicated when you don't have someone literally showing step by step the right thing to do. This is exactly what I needed.

You are a GENT! Absolutely excellent video with the perfect level of explanation. I was missing the Disk Management step and it was driving me nuts! Thank you so much.

Thanks a lot for this video. I will be doing same thing, as I wanted to clone/update/backup all in one and this gadget does it so well. Also I see no point having large ssd as well,
as you done also, so I am having same solution there also. Will be getting 250 gb ssd.

Thank you for your video. Just what I was wanting, and my task is to read old Laptop Drives. Laptop no longer usable without a lot of fine work remodelling some cable terminals on the motherboard -- very expensive. I have an almost new PC with plenty of physical space for more SSD drives internally (will format as a RAID (probably Type 10) for backup purposes, but was wanting to connect my old drives externally and save some what I have there, both to current folders, and to backup on the RAID. Thank you again. Your vid confirmed my thoughts that this impromptu method of connection is possible without physically swapping drives in and out.

Brilliant, many thanks . Not many vids showing that you can use the USB method for, as you say, Cloning when short of SATA ports . Thank you again, a nice friendly, easy going video .

Excellent that you showed us how to initalize the new external USB drive in Windows. I haven't built a PC in years and the refresh on Disk Management in Win 11 helped a bunch. I formatted my external NVMe USB-C drive as exFAT to match the large sound files that I record. Works Great! Thank you!

I was prepping to reuse my old laptops' SSDs and this vid helped out a lot. If I went in blind maybe I'd get panicked at the initialization bit :)))) I hope the reading speed and other technicals isn't too critical for using this setup side by side with the PC
