the example at 2:18 helped me a lot, it helped with a question i was stumped on for a while 'Jill was serving a pie. She cut the pie in to 5 equal pieces. She gave one to her mother, father and herself. She cut one piece in half and gave it to her brother. How much of the pie was left?'

One of your examples (@ c. 3:20) is wrongly worded! It is clear the answer you are intended to get is 1/6 but the way the question is written the answer to it is 1/2! Clearly the question SHOULD have said: "What fraction of the original batch of cookies did he take to school.".
