I used to have the 70-200, but since I no longer do wedding that lens just sit in my bag for the longest time. I sold it along with the 35mm 1.4 and 50 1.2, the only prime I kept is the 85 1.2 and i bought the 28-70 f2. The 85 1.2 is a very very special lens, I find myself shooting that focal range a lot so I know that's the only prime I cant ever give up. Soon i will be looking to buy the 15-35 f2.8 and either the 105 f1.4 or 135 f1.8 for an extra bit of reach. I think that will be my final set up, 2 Trinity Zooms and 2 Trinity Primes. The 28-70 f2 and 85 1.2 are 2 amazing beasts, the 28-70 replaces most of my standard range primes easily. Now everytime i want to travel light all I bring is 28-70 f2 and 85 1.2 and Im very happy with the photos I get out of them.

It really is a game changer lens. Love it for stage work, and it’s brilliant for weddings. Great vid 👏🏻

Im getting back to photography, is the 24-70 2.8f rf for a R6mk2 the obvious choice ? Or should i go 28-70?

Hey Steven! I am so happy with your statement. Since years I were told, buy prime lenses, zoom lenses are bad. But instead of this I always used only my RF 24-70. I believe it is even better, than the RF 35 f 1.8 in Terms of sharpness. Also with lots of indie filmmaking in mind, it is the best choise for me. But I admit, that 35mm is my most loved focal length and I cant wait to see wether Canon will manage to deliver a new RF 35mm with even f 1.2. That would be stunning and the only prime I will buy for my R5.

Did you get the 70-200 2.8f? :) and what primes have you kept? :)

I really enjoy renting the 70-200 but I always find I still take the vast majority with my RF 85mm 1.2. Although you’re absolutely right about the results at high ISOs, I love those crispy images in lower light from the 85.
On a totally separate note, would you ever consider doing a video with the RF 100-500? It’s obviously not really the right lens for weddings but there’s not a single video with that lens in those environments and I think it would be an interesting video regardless. Off to watch Gene’s now 💪

Hey Steven I’m with you brother! I went all in on the “Holy Trinity” of RF lenses and haven’t regretted it for one second! Other than the those three lenses my EF 85mm 1.4 is still one of my favorite go-to lenses because it has IS which is a must for handheld wedding films! ✌🏼

Any other all-prime shooters out there starting to use zooms?!

I just traded all 3 of my RF primes (85mm f/2, 50mm f/1.8, and 35mm f/1.8, not L lenses) for the RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM. I already own the RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM. 😎💜😎
