1996- Super Mario 64 was released on the N64 which released in 1996

2002- Super Mario Sunshine was released on the game cube which released in 2001

2007- Super Mario galaxy released for the wii which released in 2006

2010- Super mario galaxy 2, a game originally meant as a simple follow up including scappred features, basically an expansion was made into a full game. Galaxy 2 was not always it's own game and was originally galaxy more or galaxy 1.5

2013- Super Mario 3d world released for the wii u which released in 2012

2017- Super mario odyssey released for the switch which also released in 2017.

Aside from the extremely special case of galaxy 2, a 3d mario always comes due to a new home console. So we wont see another 3d mario until a new console like the rumored switch 2 releases

Aside from WII every home console has had one mainline 3D Mario game. The switch itself has gone the longest of all Nintendo consoles without a new console. I doubt anything is planned for the switch on 3d Mario or it would have released. They are probably waiting for Nintendos next console.
