Very sadly, many men today cannot properly provide for their family (not deliberately but due unemployment or other circumstances). It is the primary responsibility of the man to provide for his family.
Even marriage is difficult, forget about polygyny.

I agree most men cannot handle polygyny. On the other hand I do also believe that we need to be more open to polygyny. Especially in today's time where there are very few good men and women. Being a man we are used to maintaining a balance. It's the woman in most cases being bias. There needs to be re education we muslims are all so westernized. Men are used to detaching themselves from their emotions. I think this is what's stopping most to be polygynous. No man should marry more than 1 if he can't maintain the responsibility. It's ridiculous. Sorry for my own bias.

the Quran also sets a pre-condition of if "you worry you may be unjust to orphans" for polygyny. Back then it had to do with wars where men fought and died and so there was a shortage of them and widows/orphans needed taking care of.
An example of a modern parallel of this is what happened in WW2 Russia. After the war there was 75 men per 100 women. They could've benefited from a polygyny model, but didn't so many women I imagine grew into old age alone and without families or children, or in widowed single mom households without a father figure, provider, etc...

Most men today are not in the right state of mind and resources to take good care of two women. Marriage is a very serious responsibility.

Ukhti, at about :50, you hit on the issue. Follow the rules of Qur'an and the issues become clear. Men can't simply use polygamy to satisfy their lusts.
