Inside Adam Savage's Cave: The Deep Blue Bag

Adam's friend Marcos Mafia--co-founder of Mafia Bags--stops by the cave to show off a new hand-crafted backpack made from upcycled materials like rugged sailcloth and wetsuit/drysuits. Marcos shows Adam a few of the bag's unique features that make it ideal for taking to the beach, and how designer Yves Behar contributed to its streamlined aesthetic. Plus, proceeds from the bag support the non-profit Sustainable Surf!

Do you realize the amount of noise the bag is making when moved around? This may not be best suited in a school setting unless they found a way to get rid of the crinkling sound.

Neat concept. I used to own a sailboat. I HATED rolling up the sails because of that sound. Last thing I want is a loud crinkling bag toting around with me. If they rubberized the material maybe but no way as is.

My daughter is an avid day hiker, found a pack on Mafia's website that is in her sports team colors, bought it for her upcoming birthday.

Pricey, but handmade and each bag is unique and well designed and a much better gift than the usual gift certificate / cash I usually come up with.

Plastics should NEVER BE washed in a washing machine because this is one of the main sources for the dreaded micro plastics. I use to own a sweater made from recycled bottles and thus I've loved it, adored it actually, only to find out later on that when I've washed it, I contributed to micro plastics in the ocean!
