Good stuff man! I agree with you. Almost 5 years later and the bmpcc is still a relevant camera, that's says a lot on its own.

It's so strange for a camera to have such a strong shelf life. It's very pure, and I accept its flaws. My 512GB card cost almost as much as I bought the camera used. I love RAW!

Keep it up bro! Totally agree, BMPCC is still a little beast, even in 2017.

Made the same thing, not ridiculous at all. People are going mad with this 4K hysteria, which of course is not only comprehensible but reasonable to a certain extent. With BMPCC you must know what challenges you're going to face it, first of all the fact you're going to spend more than the one thousand euro you need to get the body. That said, despite some relevant downsides, it makes totally sense buying this little miracle as long as you're looking for a camera capable of producing such a distinctive cinematic look. A must for people who want to improve their knowledge and ability with color grading or color correction. Have a wonderful trip!

I bought my bmpcc this year and am about to actually learn how to use, the image quality drives me already nuts though, it is actually magic! Can't get enough of it.

Hey man, nice first video. The BMPCC is absolutely a wonderful little gem of a camera. If anyone feels slo-motion is a deal-breaker they should have a look at the BMMCC (Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera)... similar price, exact same sensor, small body but without a screen and capable of 50/60p for slo-mo.
I added one to the collection and am very happy with both cameras.

Watching this in 2018. Wow, you hit the nail on the head, ... still!

You are right. Better colors and more steps of dynamic range.

I've been using the Bmpcc for two years. Still love the camera. Matched with Film Convert Pro it is a dream to work with!
I often use Pro res HQ as it is very user-friendly, I would recommend the Aputure Dec Lens Regain as well as it does improve the low-light
ability. Would love to see more videos of your work, keep it up!

I would say this is not so much a competitor to DSLR's as it is to other cinema cameras. While obviously it is not an Arri Alexa or a Red, it has a look that is closer to those sort of cameras than a DSLR. Additionally, when you consider the workflow of a cinema camera, the OG starts to make more sense when it comes to the need to rig it using external batteries, an external monitor, external recorder for audio (seriously, who uses the onboard audio for any serious video work?), some sort of stabilizer, etc. All cinema cameras work like this.

Thank you for your thoughts man, I agree. The Bmpcc produces an amazing image if you know what you're doing. Nice grade on your broll. Just got mine and i love it. The RAW workflow with Adobe P sucksss tho.

I have so many questions lol.. 1) What's the normal crop of the BMPCC sensor ? Is it 3x or is it 2.88 ? 2) What memory card do you use w/ the camera, shooting 422 or RAW.. 3) How many batteries do you take with you on a shoot day ?

I have both and now i have to decide which one to let go..the two main reasons im not sure is first, because i love to shoot slowmotion and with the bmpcc its impossible and second, the poor battery.I have external battery solutions but this removes the ''pocket''element .Other than that i love tha bmpcc image, far more cinematic.Hope we see a BMPCC II soon that has some slowmotion(60p).

If you have to choose between them, yes the BMPCC is the right choice for filmmakers that want to shoot narratives. But if you can afford it, use both, as the GH4 is cheaper compared to the BMPCC right now. I have seen 10-bit V-Log L footage from the GH4 captured on external recorders in ProRes HQ match up pretty well to the BMPCC, so it is usable as a B-cam considering the 4K resolution (which is pretty close to Super 16 in a down cropped format) and 96 fps. The BMPCC is still superior to the GH4 as a A-cam. As I cannot afford a second camera right now, I'm happy that I bought the BMPCC. And btw, it shoots a 12-bit image in RAW, not 10-bit as stated in the video.

Dope camera. I also have one with the speed booster and Sigma 18-35 f1.8.

You should keep making videos.
It would also be interesting to see how you color graded the footage, it does look very cinematic.

BMPCC looks like real film. GH5 or A7sii do NOT look like film.
