It is weird that Square hasn’t already remastered/remade Chrono Trigger yet. They chose to remake/remaster Actraiser, Live a Live, Secret of Mana, FF3, Romancing Saga, etc, all good games, but can’t touch the greatness of Chrono Trigger. Unless there are legal reasons why they can’t, not sure I understand their decision making.

HD-2D would be a major disservice to Chrono Trigger. It deserves nothing less than the full remake treatment, in the style of a modern Dragon Quest game.
