I had this album. It was a super tight band.

IN HIS BIO those swinging years, ,he mentions stan kenton as ruining the big bad business asking his audiance to listen to the music rather than dance to the music thereby ending the great era of men & women dancing together that gave way to rock & roll .. one great musician  i played with who had auditioned for barnet said charlie was very demanding of his sections, , i e brass, saxes etc, , he had hired and lost a lot of the most talented arrangers like billy may and musicians like Fergerson, servernson, clark terry before they became famous on their own and lost them to glenn miller and stan kenton which also bothered him, , his 1968 album is a gas although im sure he used studio muscians for that record date, but he actually plays on the album which i couldnt believe and did a great job with his old sound  vs the new sax sounds of the great sax section he recorded with, ,
charlie like tommy D  was also a tough guy i was told, , but hey when your dealing with 20 guys you need to lead and that means keeping them in line, ,

Anyone know if this was mastered to tape? Tape was launched in the US circa 1948.

charlie was so ahead of his time but unlike kenton he kept the people on the dance floor .. yes all his tunes had dance tempos of the time included with some of the most progressive muscians finally stolen by kenton .. once asked harry james comment was, that barnet had the best brass section he had ever heard and thats a lot coming from harry james .. barnets revised album from 1968 is a gas with an outanding sax section along with some great brass as well and charlie hung in there too .
i remember him well and read his book, ,THOSE SWINGING YEARS, fun book to read .
