A nice subtle, understated version of a classic ballad.

Maynard also gave the same treatment to a song called "Whats New?"which was also a ballad but this time with the Stan Kenton orchestra.I also remember going into a cinema in the early 1950`s in my home town (Lincoln UK) and they played it in the interval between movies while people were buying popcorn and ice cream and it made my day.

I had no idea this version was even banned! I love it so much. Maynard going all out on this and playing his ass off as usual. Oh well.

That`s right...I was around at the time and remember the headlines in the British musical press (Melody Maker) the Kern estate thought the version was tasteless.
It was written in 1939 for a stage show and was a sentimental ballad.
I was in my early teens at the time and thought the MF/CB version was sensational.

At the time of release the Jerome Kern estate had this record removed from record stores and banned from the radio.
