“What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all”

I've been to Chernobyl and it's mindblowing. During the tour we came close to the "Red Forest" I remember the guide pointing to a patch of trees across a street and telling us "you see that forest? well in it you'd absorve the recommended ammount of radiation for an entire year in less than one hour"

Oh... Chernobyl thee.... I still remember the first tremor and shaking of building complex we lived in.... God bless my father who immediately started his vehicle and rushed out taking us and leaving everything I still can't shake that day's images from my mind.. Rip all those who perished due to it...

in 2022 those silly russians thought it was a good idea to drive their tanks through the red forest without wearing even respirators, and even dug trenches in the forest, most likely burned the wood for their fires without a thought because they werent told or aware of the area they were in besides that the building was an "Important facility" they were assigned to defend, which resulted in 7 busses of soldiers being med-evac'd due to being diagnosed with acute radiation sickness during the current invasion of Ukraine.

The workers of the powerplant called the russians actions "Suicidal"

I love that the animals are basically in a poacher free zone. And it's guaranteed because of radiation. Love that those animals can roam carefree and wild

It always amazes me how the soviets took their population for granted. We will never know the real death toll that Soviet secrecy has caused. Even as we watch this Chernobyl is in danger from the Russian invasion. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

What caused it? "Human nature." To make a stable source of power without caring about safety because it's "safer" and more profitable.

I was 10 years old, in a neighbouring country when this happened. There was a lot of fear and children were given iodine to drink. We have left since then but three of my family have died from cancer, those who have remained.

The sad thing about this whole situation is that in general nuclear power is much cleaner and safer than fossil fuel power. The bad thing is that when it goes bad it goes VERY bad.

The top reason better be to celebrate Mikhail Gorbachev's upcoming birthday so they did everything to get the site up and going even if cutting corners during testing.
