Love my t roc r, brought after testing and viewing this review 2 years ago. Does everything we need to, also took it on track and had a great time with it. Absolutely love it

It's so funny to see a nearly identical motor under the hood of a 10 year old GTI. There's a myriad of small changes over the decade like reduced friction, higher psi fuel pumps, strengthened crank and different turbos but It just goes to show how good the EA888 engine really was from the start. It's smooth, refined and powerful in all states of tune (170-310 hp). Like all motors it isn't perfect and has its "issues", but by and large it's a gem. It's almost impossible to not average 28 mpg or better even when driving aggressively in a GTI. 30-32 mpg is usually my baseline in mixed driving (even with an APR tune) and I drive pretty aggressively with a few full throttle pulls because, why not. It's fun and it's what the motor was designed for.

I really like this car. I have a Golf GTI TCR and I test drove a demonstrator T-Roc R as I thought it would be a great car for my wife and also, quite a cool two car garage 😁 However, I just can't get past that cheap interior. Which is really noticeable, no matter how much fun it is to drive!
