Such a service to your community. I just have to say as a 75 year old combat vet who has served in Vietnam that the service you are providing is honorable. This is coming from a man who's job was threat protection for 5 top tier bases, 3 South Vietnam SF and 2 USSF, Delta Force & Seal Team 6. We deployed in a 15 man unit and got to work directly with the civilian people and their Top Tier Forces in 2 border towns behind enemy lines. This was directly on a major supply rout where at times we could see lights for a mile or more and would call in artillery rounds on them or AC - 47's gun ships, B-52's & helicopter gunships They were protected by Battalion and Brigade size forces. My belief of service to country and to each other is the most honorable thing any of us can do.

What a beautiful thing you are doing. Cleaning the headstones is wonderful, but researching and sharing the lives and stories behind the names is truly a beautiful and respectful thing. Very inspiring. I know you put a lot of time into this, thank you.

What an awesome job you did for little Gracie.Thank you! So sad how children died back in the day. Those parents too, had a lot of grief to deal with.

Her stone looks awesome, and thank you so much for cleaning it and for telling Gracie's story. She passed way too young. I have done and continue to do lots of genealogy for both family and friends. My ex-husband's mom had 12 children, and about 5 passed away either shortly after birth or within the first 2 or 3 years of life. I have seen enteritis as the cause of death of at least 3 of these little ones. I know they were an extremely poor family, and these littles belonged to her and her first husband, who was not my ex's father. I have heard that they had barely enough food for the family, and their house was dirt floor covered. This situation wasn't the best for infants to thrive in. I know there were many families who were living just like this in the 1930s and 40s. Life wasn't easy for so many back then, and many children paid the ultimate price. 😢

We have no idea how easy is for us to evade death at a young age; antitibiotics changed everything. My great great grandfather was born in Genoa in 1852 and he was one of four siblings out of thirteen to reach adulthood. My great grandfather died in 1918 because of the Spanish flu. He had seen three of his nine children predecease him due to several diseases which today would mean only a couple days in bed.

It's good what you do in order to respect and preserve the memory of the departed. Greetings from Buenos Aires.

We appreciate your efforts: cleaning a stone like that requires a mixture of delicacy and energy: you have it dignified. And thank you for the research you have done about Gracie and her family.

I thank you as well. Very kind of you. People just died all the time. I wonder if affected the family like it does today.

Use a brush, as you did later. The stiffest cocoa brush will drive that vegetation off. The more of the present growth you rid the stone of the longer your stone will remain clean. I brought receipts: I washed hundreds of stones while working for a monument dealer (it was a wonderful job, helping me to pay for college expenses.

My grandfather lost three siblings due to dypyheria. They died within two weeks. He escaped the illness as he was in a military school and was not exposed. My poor great grandmother……

What an interesting video! I had pneumonia last year. I was not hospitalised but I had to have three rounds of antibiotics and it lasted about 2 and a half months. I have never been so ill. It is sobering to realise that the difference between me and Gracie's sister (and possibly Gracie) is just the discovery of antibiotics.
