Hey Sam I'm having a really tough day as I just lost my mom today and this really cheered me up. That face plant was gold and you didn't get hurt which is awesome. Anyway thank you for all that you do. You have a gift and you are an amazing creator. Keep up the good work.

The funniest part about the first attempt is knowing how funny you would think it was going to be when watching back the footage. Thats the epitome of Sam humor executed by Sam Tabor himself.

Dude, that faceplant was amazing! Forget backflips, just practice landing that every time... 😂😂😂

Sadly this will get lost in the comment section but, as far as me learning to do a flat ground backflip I started doing it down a gradual hill. As I learned the key to this is jumping straight up, keeping your gaze directly in front of you, waiting till you are at your peak and then tucking your knees in to your chest, and then follow through and the force of your knees coming up and meeting your chest will give you the momentum to propel the rest of your body around! From there it's just trial and error! If you see this check out some back tuck tutorials and they will give a better verbal and visual explanation, you got this and I hope you do another video on this soon!

It took me three years before I finally decided to just commit and do it. So to see you do this and just go for it, is just really great man! One thing that helped me was doing a round off into a back tuck because I already had momentum from the round off so it gave me more confidence. Just keep it up I know you'll get it.

When trying to backflip on flat ground you can use a matress to build up confidence. When you jump you're doing it backwards not upwards. You have to use more your arms and less your head and back.

Jump as hard as you can and swing your arms at the same time. Swing your arms completely extended till head height and bring your knees to your chest, not your chest to your knees. Practice it in the trampoline without bouncing at all and you'll notice that you'll overrotate. When you feel comfortable try it on flat with a matress but jumping from the ground to the matress.
Hope this helps!

awesome! ive been flipping for over 10 years and i know that feeling soooo well haha committing can be so difficult its so mental. a couple tips - 1. try and swing your arms all the way up before you actually tuck your legs in and rotate for the flip (itll get you way more height) - 2. make sure to fully extend your jump through your knees and toes (jumping through the toes will also get you a lot more height). 3. to not jump so far back try and keep your chest facing forward fully until you actually have your arms fully up and have just jumped. at that point then you lean back into the flip, grab your shins, and pull in tight. other than that keep it up bro you totally got that flat with a little practice

It makes it even more funny that I thought the thumbnail was staged 😂😂😂

Make sure your arms are straight and swing them until they’re completely vertical. A good arm swing is the key to height and rotation

what helped me the most is practice throwing your arms as high as you can and jump. Then when you go to flip, jump as high as possible and throw your arms straight up as far as you can. It’s like a video game jump boost. no joke.

Tip: swing your arms up more, it makes it easier to jump up not out. Also it gives you height. full send

Sam, my best friend's parents own an air gymnastics gym, and his dad has worked with me on doing a backflip, and what you need to do is, jump up more, which you already know, and when you're about to land/landing straighten up your back so when you land you are landing more upright than hunched over. If you watch a video of a fymnast doing one, you should understand what I mean better. Good luck my guy!😀

Yo! Did gymnastics for 16 years, taught it for 8! I'll DM ya a video I made ages ago on how to backflip!

You're so close! The biggest tip I can give ya is try to swing your arms all the way to your ears, and bring your knees up to your arms. Be warned, it will feel like a slower flip at the beginning (because it is), but since you'll be fully extended, when you tuck into a ball, you'll spin and flip much faster. It should also help you not travel back as much, since you'll be flipping with your knees, and not with your shoulders throwing back!

Take advice from me because I actually do flips in ground. Focus on something then jump strait up in the air then flip once your at the top of your jump and stay tucked until you feel yourself land. Hope this helps and also swing your arms as hard as you can.

Drive your chest straight up (with the momentum of your arms) before you tuck, this will help you to get the trajectory of your flip upwards, giving you more airtime. (I noticed you initiate the tuck very early, therefore giving you less upward momentum + airtime)

And one thing that helped me with gaining confidence was someone literally counting down from 20. It's a psychological thing, and it's proven to get you passed that "flinch". I'd give it a try.

If you watch the footage, you are going almost 3 or 4 meters back, when you should be going not even one, and aiming for the spot where you took off. This is because if you pause just before you jump, you are already leaning back at about a 45 degree angle, when you want to set and jump directly up. That will give you so much more height, and make it easier for you to rotate faster and more casually. Other then that, this vid is awesome!! Keep up the great stuff 🙌🔥
