It seems that prayer in our culture is more of a last resort than a regularity. However, in times of crisis, our commitments are reevaluated. One that moves up the priority list is prayer. Perhaps the reasoning is that communicating with God provides a medicinal benefit that cannot be manufactured by human means. See, what oxygen is to the body is what prayer is to the soul. Releasing your concerns and fears is emotionally and spiritually healthy. These intriguing points concerning prayer are not just catching the eyes of church-going people. Research focusing on the power of prayer in healing has nearly doubled in the past ten years, says Dr. David Larson, MD, MSPH, president of the National Institute for Healthcare Research, a private nonprofit agency.

Long before the medical community caught on, David, God's Psalmists, recognized the importance of the therapeutic provisions of prayer. In Psalm 18:3-6, he said,

"I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.4 The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. 5 The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. 6 But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears."

Again in Psalm, 34:4, David reiterated his dependence on prayer when he wrote, "I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears."

Your best response to difficulties is to depend on God with prayer. In his book Hope for A Troubled Heart, Billy Graham said, "This should be the motto of every follower of Jesus Christ. No matter how dark and hopeless a situation might seem, never stop praying."

With this in mind, be constant in prayer. Trust God to be your refuge and strength in times of trouble and uncertainty. As you lift those concerns and worries to the Lord, you will experience a peace that surpasses all human understanding.

May God bless you with an increased desire to seek Him in prayer.
