A comparison is needed that is way more in detail for air to air vs air to water heat pumps.

The government "experts" who promote these alternatives have no practical experience or installation knowledge of these heating systems, nor the ongoing problems they cause their neighbours. The noise and air vibration they emit is horrendous; "It's a noise that gets right inside your head", as my friend tells me, who is unfortunate enough to live next to one of these systems Just imagine one of these installed on every house in your street... One is extremely noisy; a road full of them would be unbearable. I know of two people taking legal action against their neighbours due to these devices. They tell me that the constant noise and vibration frequency are wearing them down, both mentally and physically.

Air source heat pumps can be very expensive in cold weather. You are using electricity to work the pump, but in cold weather, when temperatures get below 5c, you can be putting in one unit of electricity and only getting one unit of heat out. So, they can be as expensive as an electric fire. The best ones are those that are sited in your garage as they are sourcing warmer air so it costs less to make the exchange. The best thing would be to spend your money on improving your insulation. The better insulated, the less it costs to keep warm. If you have a chimney, or an outside wall where you can put a flue, put in a pellet burner. The least expensive form of heating and very efficient. But either way, do your homework. The salesman is there to make a profit.
