i would say there is 1 small caveat to ordering groceries and that is to make sure you live in an easy-to-access area for vehicles. my first week in lisbon i decided to place a huge order for delivery because i needed to stock up on everything (detergent, dog food, milk, and everything heavy you can imagine, on top of regular groceries). i did not consider that i live in alfama on a pedestrian only street. the poor delivery driver had to lug all the bags up a hill to get to my front door, which he was less than pleased about 😅

I moved recently to Galicia (to a city very close to Portugal border) and is very cheap actually! and with high quality, specially seafood!

Why do you pay so much? I guess it is Lisbon, not the shop selection. Perhaps, try Pingo Doce or Mini Preco? Prices should be lower. At least here up in the north of Portugal. I pay Salmon 15-16 euros per kilo. I buy fruit and veggies at local fruit shops and it is cheaper than the supermarket. For example, local tomatoes are no more than 1.50 per kilo and they are amazing. The other day I bought some delicious ripened ones for 99 cents per kilo. Consider there are also deals on fresh food all day around so you can end up buying some items with a 30% discount and still with a few days left before the expiration date.

And why not a common big supermarket as well? There are always good promotions there, if not in one, then in another one, like sometimes paying for canned tuna 50% and things like that
