Most people don’t learn anything in traditional colleges either. You learn more in the real world, it’s up to you to seek knowledge. Traditional colleges don’t prepare you for interviews. Prep work is necessary for any job interview, whether you have a degree or not. It’s essential to structure your ideas, in order to effectively communicate.

It’s the best thing I’ve ever experienced cuz I don’t like to be bothered with people.

I got a whole college degree at a renowned university. I don't remember half the information I learned😂😂😂

Someone said “they don’t prepare you for the job, they prepare you to be trained” and that was all I needed to hear. I thought about this myself. Nothing really sticks until your on the job working every day

WGU requires you to get industry certifications to graduate. It's a part of your degree completion and included in your tuition. I hope you're not a hiring manager with this bias stance.

And if this self learning path isnt something you think you can deal with, you should reconsider tech all together, because this is an industry where youll have to keep doing that self taught stuff for your entire career.

Tech is basically self learned. What regular college is going to hold your hand the entire way?

I like self studying, because traditional brick and mortar schools. Curriculums are too slow for me. Plus, I’ve always had no money, so I’ve always had to teach myself everything.

The way i see it is that I know my stuff as a software engineer but right now is so hard to get a job without a bachelors, so If i can get my bachelors in 2 months I get interviews and I am confident I can pass them

This is in regard to college in general. Most people dont remember half of what they've learned. It doesn't matter whether you are in a classroom or online. Most of your actual learning will be done on the job.

I love WGU

Sit down and learn to absorb material like an adult

Yep I sit at my computer 8-10 hours a day and work. I’ve been in the program six weeks and I’m at almost forty percent completion. Mind you I have experience in my field so that helps. WGU is excellent for obtaining your MAT.

To be honest, the degree or achievement status is what the majority of people need and are after, as typically most people aren't using more than 20% of what they've learned for a CS degree in their actual job.

Most college grads don't retain a lot of course material. You will always learn more by working on the job. The degree just gets you in the door.

There’s no way you can pass these cyber class exams with out learning it

All about getting that first job in tech or maybe internship while you’re in the program. Able to finish the A+, Net+ and Sec+ very quick because I was able practice some troubleshooting at help desk job and a cybersecurity analyst internship in the program. Your gonna have to bend over backwards to get your foot in the door in the job market people but it is worth it once you get that experience!!

I disagree, not because you have to teach yourself things but:

1. This applies to any online schooling

2. WGU is self-paced. This indicates that you don't have deadlines for turning in assignments and rush getting those done versus taking the time to learn the material first.

but that's how it is with any college 😅

in fact it's even worse with traditional colleges because there are so many distractions like parties, classmates and roommates.
