This is a Video Coaching Review submission of a barebow archer that is self taught and has only been shooting for one year. One habit to be fixed will help prevent injury to the draw shoulder and, I pick up on a few form issues as well...

Shoulder impingement prevention, Creeping, set to set-up movements, follow through, and bow had tension were a few of the topics covered in this archery video coaching review.

Allowing me to use your VCR to put on YouTube is 100% voluntary, please feel no pressure to share your videos with others.

Special thanks to Bruce for the use of his VCR to help many others out there in the archery world.

I like to focus on changes that will make a large impact on an archer with relatively small changes. Some of the changes that could be suggested are too difficult to manage without hands on support. I know that there are hundreds of ways to shoot arrows into the ten ring, I know that the method I was taught is not the only way to shoot. I prefer to enhance and encourage archers to make changes that I know will make a difference in their shooting performance regardless of the style of shooting they use.

These videos are great for beginner archers. I'd like to see more of these! Also, big thanks to Ross for letting us learn from you! (nice place, btw!)

Video delay app on the App Store is an app for delaying the footage you shoot with an adjustable delay. Good for shooting then watching and repeating the process.

15:40 NUSensei called this 'Chichen wing.' As he is in a bit compressed possition and not getting long enough draw length as he should've got.

Regarding his Set Up position, he seems to be half-way between NTS and what American Style was before KSL showed up. In American style, the torso rotated toward the target when the bow was raised. (Yes the shoulders are out of alignment.) As the bow is drawn, the torso is rotated into alignment. Everything in archery involves trade-offs. The torso rotation back into alignment actually helps to draw the bow. So, you lose alignment temporarily but you get a boost in the draw. I agree with you in that being half-way between these two techniques is not to be recommended.

An alternative explanation for the creeping is that he is just raising his bow arm instead of tilting from the waist to raise the bow. This shortens the draw.

Volume on this video is a bit low; perhaps some adjustment might help (if not for this video, then maybe for a future lesson). Anyways, thanks for sharing the knowledge! Nice resource this one.

Do you find that creeping and target panic are often found together?

Hi jake
I am a recurve archer. My problem is that when I anchor, I see my sight pin through the string. It's been like this since I started shooting, recently I watched your video about sight picture. I tried shifting the my head and pulling the string back further but nothing feels comfortable. Please help me. Should I just maintain my original sight picture?

I'm about the same age as the archer depicted here. When I draw to my anchor at the side of my mouth, I don't have a lot of movement left in my ancient joints, which means I can't do a follow through like the professionals. My hand may move back an inch, no more. Nevertheless, I am pulling with my back muscles, because after I have shot 100 or more arrows, that is where the tension in my back is. How much does this really affect my overall accuracy?

I often hit left of the spot even when I am aiming right of my string. Would tilting my bow bring my arrow to the right.?

Not quite sure how you're coaching Barebow Archers, you've not really got you're own Barebow form 100% sorted and you're not even competing in any Barebow tourneys. It would be nice to see you actually compete and see you work your way up the ranks. I know your Olympic Form goes a long way but it becomes a different game once the Clicker and Stabs come off the bow. As you already know from experience, even the tuning isn't straight forward and more of a dark art lol Come and shoot some tourney.
