Actually the x block below is definitely realistic. The open hand x block which you agreed to have some utility is definitely what a beginner shoulder work with. Blocking is way easier than grabbing on an instinctual level. Though I agree with you with all of these! Nice vid, keep it up!

The biggest problem with knife disarms is that 90% of the time you don't know the other guy has a knife until he stabs you with it, therefore the disarm (effective or not) is pretty irrelevant in the real world. Basically the only persons who will show you the knife before stabbing you with it are (1) Robbers, and (2) Horror movie maniacs.

Most military schools teach "you have to sacrifice something to the knife"...knife is more scary than a gun imo.

The second one would be possible, and I have done it myself instinctively if the attacker is already groggy and tired so he doesn't see the kick coming... but that's the ONLY real way that a kick to the hand will work!

Nice video. Eskrima-Kali-Arnis has the best knife system in the world I believe since the Filipinos are from a knife culture and many of the Masters have been in knife fights/been stabbed. Whenever the x block is used in our system there is often a 'kaw-it' which is a type of hook with the fingers so the person cannot simply just pull back. I agree with your teaching in this video though. Best to get a plastic knife and try to stab each other to see what truly works (this is what we do).

I found your channel from watching your posts on your website - very informative. I'd like to ask you a question:

I live in the UK and in the terrorist attack which occurred a fortnight ago all 3 terrorists had bound their knives to their hands, so removing them would have been impossible.

Because of that any disarming techniques would be rendered useless. How would someone defend against that, bearing in mind in the UK we're not allowed to carry weapons (unlike the terrorists)?

I'd guess that if this has happened here, it's perhaps already been a method of attack by someone in the US, street attacker if not a terrorist?

I just saw the prison film AMERICAN ME where there are a bunch of scenes featuring people getting stabbed in a reality based way.
After seeing this I'd say ANYONE would be hard pressed defendingcagsibst a realistic knife attack. Before you even realize your opponent has a knife he's probably stabbing you multiple times and usually from an angle that difficult to defend.

The problem with knife defense is than the technique can maybe work against a beginner but never against someone who have studied knife fighting ....i have work 5 years in foreign legion and i try that in a self defense stage against a bjj instructor=if i Attack him with basic Attack he can disarm and armlock me, but when i have begin to use more advenced technique like diversion, double or triple Attack i had the opportunity to touch him lot of time in the throat....
