How to apply a single material to multiple objects in Blender 2.8?
When you select multiple object and apply a materials, Blender only apply that material to the first selected object. To apply on all the selected objects you will have to hold down Ctrl L and then select Materials. This will then attached the last applied materials to the selected objects.

Another example of Blenders convoluted way of doing things. Also, if you're using the Industry Compatible keymap there is no hotkey to pull open the Make Links menu. Still haven't figured that out.

it doesnt work, i did the same thing but it doesnt change anything.

Why is a simple thing like applying a material to more than 1 object so hard and convoluted in Blender? In other software like 3ds Max it's literally Select objects -> Apply material. Done. It literally takes 2 seconds. This makes me not want to learn Blender knowing how hard it would be to work with materials.
