A nursing assistant works under the supervision of a nurse to provide daily basic care for patients in hospitals, physician’s offices, private homes, clinics and assisted living facilities.

In the first semester, you will learn CPR, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, vital signs, hygiene, human reproduction, basic nutrition, and patient care.

During the second semester, students work in clinical settings to master the skills required for the state certification exam. Note: Students must provide their own transportation to clinical settings and internship sites. Flexible hours are required and depend on the availability of clinical sites. Weekend and/or extended days may be required. The student must also have proof of immunization or evidence of immunity to certain communicable illnesses, and have a current TB skin test. No criminal record. Students may be randomly drug tested.

EVIT + Pima Medical Institute
Once an EVIT student completes the Nurse Assistant program, the student will have 11 earned credits available to apply towards enrollment in the PMI Health Care Administration Degree program. Students also have the opportunity to dual enroll in two online PMI courses, at no charge to the EVIT student, for 16 earned credits available to apply towards enrollment in the PMI Health Care Administration Degree program. EVIT students may also enroll in the Patient Care Tech program, which requires applicants to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
