It is best to plug in the charger after the ignition is on, this avoids leaving it permanently powered. Have a good trip, Kinga and Chillie. ✌

It sounds like you installed a 12V socket. My Africa Twin has a 12V socket. There are numerous options for a USB port that plugs into the 12V socket; one or two USB outlets with or without a voltmeter. I also have an automotive plug wired directly into the battery. I think that is installed by the dealer to maintain the battery. I have a USB adapter that plugs into the automotive plug. They are cheap, and if something goes wrong, you just plug in a new one.
