As a srilankan I'm really sorry for the inconvenience that you guys has faced. Scams is so bad for tourism in lot of way i hope government needs to take action for this. Hi guys i am a student from kandy ... bad things about scammers is early covid season i speak with lot of tourists for improve my spoken english ability and to be friendy with them but now the things changed and i try to speak with them they refuse to speak bcz they think i am  a scammer tooo .... early  this i speak with norway  child and i learned lot of things about thier country . And i also shared some informations about our country ... this is only one experience ... sad to say this ... I HATE SCAMMERS

Also, keep in mind that exchanging money for high rates is totally illegal and still considered a scam, even if you get real money in return. As we said, 99% of the people we meet here are very honest ❤

Glad to see you in my hometown. Here some few personal tips for future travelers to Kandy, so they don't have to rely on 'fake guides';

1) Personally I love walking around the Kandy Lake during the afternoon (after 4pm). The views are breathtaking and cost you nothing.


2) Kandy View point also offer a breathtaking view of the whole city from a small hill. There is a stairway to this place from the Kandy Lake Round. use google maps and select 'walking'. The walk is also enjoyable.

3) Queens bakery and the Bake House are great choices, as you saw in this video. In addition, Delight, Soya Center, and Devon are also great places to have a snack. The Java lounge is a great tea/coffee place. But I can say most restaurants in Kandy are really good. So it's hard to go wrong.

4) Temple of the Tooth is a must go place. It's a very beautiful palace turned into a temple. I personally enjoy it from the outside and walk around the premises.

5) The central Kandy city is very walkable and there are lots of attractions within walking distance (including above mentioned ones). So no need to take a tuck tuck. If you want to go outside the central area you will need a tuck tuck or another type of transportation. I recommend using the 'Pick Me' app. It's the local equivalent to urber. It's cheaper and hassle free.

Kandy is my home town and I remember it very fondly. Been away for over 50 years but still think of it as home. Kandy is nothing like I remember it being as it’s all changed. Still miss my homeland Sri Lanka, it’s incredible beauty, awesome climate, amazing lifestyle, wonderful people and delicious food.

On one of my visits they were constructing that Buddha on the hill. The reason its so high was to be higher than the highest mosque.

Sri Lanka's usually mix turmeric to get that yellow color in the rice

For that flavour of the yellow rice they use cardamom, sometimes cinnamon, pandan leaves and cloves when cooking

Bake House Kandy Food is awesome, we come all the way from Colombo to eat there.Kalupol Pork is the best form of Sri lankan curry. The yellow colour in the rice comes from Safron. They have awesome steaks too.
