Deadly school bus crash in Texas

One child was killed and another was seriously injured when a school bus was struck by a train.

Even if there is no warning signs or lights, aren’t there laws that require busses to make full stops before crossing a railroad? My school bus used to stop on even retired rails because they were required to stop, open the door and listen for any trains.

There are laws requiring buses to stop at railroads in texas. Or at least in Galveston. This was 100% preventable

Hiring a 77 Year Old Bus Driver was literally a Death Wish Waiting To Happen.

This is 100% the bus driver’s fault. Buses are required by law to stop and look both ways before crossing train tracks. A 78 year old shouldn’t be driving a bus full of children. So sad.

There are multiple things wrong here.
For one, a 78 year old driver?!? With 1 year of experience?!? I don’t know about you, but maybe the district shouldn’t have chosen him for a route that goes over train tracks.
Secondly, school buses are required by law to make a full stop at every railroad crossing and open up the doors. How he didn’t see the train perplexes me.
And lastly, it’s not that hard to roll down your windows, look both ways, and listen. And don’t tell me “Maybe the kids were too loud” because there were only 2 on board. And it’s a freaking train! I’ve seen enough trains to tell you they’re not quiet!
There are no excuses for this awful bus driver. He cost 1 life, 1 huge injury, his job, and probably even his license, all because of pure stupidity.
