Why Can't Every Audi Be As Good As This RS6? (2017 RS6 Performance Drive and Review)

I Love a big, fast estate car. They're a kind of understated cool. Today I'm driving the definitive fast Estate - the Audi RS6. This 2017 model is just about to be replaced, but how good is the outgoing car?

I do like how we're starting to get to the point about how even a car from a couple of years ago has dials on the dashboard and we're getting all teary eyed reminiscing about them.

I've had one from new end of 2017 and have done just over 33, 000 miles in it. I agree with a lot of what you said Jay, however what I think needs to be added is the ride. Mine runs on the air suspension and it runs over most bumps brilliantly. I have bent two alloys on pot holes, but that's due to the size and lack of profile of the wheels. In terms of driving, when you're really up it on a windy road, it begins to feel a bit cumbersome but besides that, it's one of the fastest point to point non-sports cars on the road. When you are in a rush to get somewhere, it can cover ground like you wouldn't believe, it's the ultimate getaway vehicle My two favourite things about this vehicle are.. 1: it's road presence is such that people really get out of your way, the aggressive but subtle styling seems to radiate to tell people to get out of its way. I feel the C8 styling goes too far in this aim. 2: On a motorway and dual carriageway especially you are on the same performance level as a Porsche 991 turbo S, most Ferrari and Mclaren's. When you have all your luggage in the back and you keeping up with an MP4-12C down the A1 it doesn't half put a smile on your face. After nearly 4 years of ownership I feel like it's time to move on and when I do I know I will miss it.

Not being an SUV and therefore a heavily compromised car certainly helps

I could listen to the noise from that exhaust all day everyday. I'd love to have one of these as well...

I'm absolutely with you on those "stuck on the dashboard" screens in cars...

"Modern cars are laggy and they are unsafe".
I agree wholeheartedly. I love my A5 2L DSG, but my God it can be dangerous pulling out of intersections.
I also have a RS7 C7 and the auto is sublime. No lag and so driveable. This is the reason I bought it.
As you said the last of their kind. I hope to hang onto it before the Nannies take it from me (somehow).
Great review. Subbed.

I have never been an Audi fan. Very few of their cars excite me.. but this, oh I like this..

I love my a6 avant. Even though it’s not an RS it’s quick enough for me, stylish and incredibly practical.

Yeah agree it always used to be the rs4 was best but now its all about the 6. In 2015 the performance wasn't available so I went with a remapp from 560 to 700hp, engine handles it easily. Still love it after 50k miles, couldnt imagine what to replace it with really. My only issue has been the steel brake disks, rubbish, they warp so I have upgraded. Glad you liked the car, at the same time not surprised

What an awesome interview and a car. You're spot on, I've owned one for 3 years (RS6 PE) and I love it.

Even the older RS6 is tempting, if you need space and comfort.
You’re right—engines are better than ever, and if “uncorked”, would be quite something. The WLTP is extremely tight, but still not as tight as what’s coming. We can expect lots of turbos, and electric motors to make up the difference.
Anyway, that car is plush and rather lovely. Would love one of these in the stable.

The Sible Hedingham to Wethersfield road happens to be my favourite test run too. 😁
Nice to see my home village featured, so you've definitely got a new subscriber here James. 👍🏻

Not an Audi fan but the RS6 really is the ultimate everyday fast car. Well it is if you're loaded, have a driveway and garage, dont park it in rough areas and dont mind putting the fuel in 😁

I think Audi got it right with this C7 generation of the RS 6. I love the C8 generation, but this one is still the one I would love to have. It's a 7 year old car, but it's definitely perfect for this modern era of cars.

I remember the day i was Giving my old b16 CRX a good workout on one of my favourite roads and there was a silver transit in front of me driving at the absolute limits for about 8 miles and i just could not keep up without it getting far too silly.

I own a 2016 A45 and I agree pulling out of junctions is just lethal, I love and hate the car in equal amounts once on the move it’s a weapon
