Back in XY Megas would steamroll anything in the main story, especially that Lucario. It honestly never made sense to me why the Gym Leaders or the Elite Four don't use Megas against you.

I hope there will be some bosses with their own Megas in Legends Z-A.

I think the limit will increase with either each check point in the story or the bond you have with said Pokémon considering that that’s how mega evo works. Like if it has restrictions early in the game to make it less busted and as you progress in the story the trainers get their own megas so your time limit becomes less restrained

Honestly that change is actually interesting because now you have to think on your feet about what the best move combos to use while your Pokémon is still mega evolved

Until further confirmation I’m assuming the time limit is an actual time limit. In the trailer one of the Pokémon had an exclamation mark fill in over its head and your Pokémon was already out and attacking so it’s possible you can have your Pokémon following you the same way they do in combat while outside of battle, also Mega Kangaskahn was able to hit multiple Pokémon with one move and the moves had a cooldown so there may not be encounters to begin with. I wasn’t able to tell if the meter lowered when attacking so if I’m right with my previous assumption then after you mega evolve your Pokémon stays that way until a section of the meter drains while you can attack anything in the overworld.

I’m also assuming that there won’t be any sort of natural recharge. It’ll probably be something like 4 uses before you need to recharge at a Pokémon Center. If they only go for about a minute each then that’s only 4 encounters + whatever is nearby when you use it before you run out. There might also be a chance to use it multiple times in a battle if it lasts long enough, but there’d probably be a cooldown preventing consecutive uses on a single Pokémon.

There powered-up moves should be stuff like range, activation speed, and area of effect.

Kind of reminds me a bit of how Megas are handled in GO, they’re limited to when they’re knocked out.

I suggested pretty much exactly this a year ago for two ago since people complained about megas being too OP. Limiting the amount of time they can be used in battle perfectly offsets the astounding leap in power and it makes sense.

I was so excited when I saw it, I hated how mega evolution was pretty much always a "I press this button at the first possible moment then forget about it"
