Actually, the Japanese audience might be inclined to care more in this case than in others. The original release of Bayonetta 1 was ONLY in an English dub because Hideki Namiya himself believed an English voice would simply fit better. Her character started off, for all intents and purposes, as Helena Taylor.

EDIT: Which isn't to say this situation is black and white good VS evil, obviously the situation is being made clearer now.

What I find disgusting about this is that this is a reoccurring problem for all of the VA community. The fact that Companies think they can keep getting away with this with underpaying people who need this for their livelihood is insulting as fuck honestly

Also wanted to say that $4K is around 60 copies of the game which is even more depressing

It sucks that VA's get disrespected like this and it needs way more attention to get something done about it

Ludvig! Please make an update on this situation, she was offered 4k for each session wich were supposed to be 5 of them, 20k then... 4x the normal rate for a 4hr session. She outright lied and threw under the bus her fellow va that has nothing to do with this...

And this is why you don't take one person's account and jump to conclusions. But I guess it's free money.

This whole channel lives off the fact that Ludwig opens Twitter everyday

One thing I realised is that there are multiple Bayonettas in the game from what you can see in the trailers. That means not only did she get offered 4K for voicing THE MAIN CHARACTER but also for voicing multiple other characters.

I've seen stuff like this before.

It seems like Platinum didn't want Hellena to voice Bayonetta, but rather than just replace her and make an excuse about it, they offered an abysmal amount of money that they knew she wouldn't accept so they would have an excuse to grab someone else, whilst simultaneously gagging Hellena with an NDA in the hopes nobody is the wiser. The fact they chose to lowball Hellena and then hire an even more expensive voice actor points to them just wanting Hellena out of the project.

This video age like milk. She lies out of spite when they refuse to give her six figure salary. She got paid 4k per session, which usually 4 hours, so she got paid $1k per hour. How greedy can someone be to reject that.

“Everyone”
After the drama this game shot up to Top 10 most Pre-Ordered on Amazon.

I believe the whole point of the EXTREME low ball deal she got was so she wouldn’t take it and they’d be able to get another voice actress for Bayonetta, which makes 0 sense from any standpoint because you already have a voice actress of a major character whose made millions for this franchise. What are they not getting through their heads?

It seems like this is the trend when it comes to Japanese companies and American VAs. In Japan voice acting seems to be well respected, and people tend to reprise the role for as long as the character is around. Look at characters like Sailor Moon and Goku. Even Bayonetta kept the same voice actress in Japan, Atsuko Tanaka. It's wild that in the west, Voice Actors are considered expendable and replaceable, even though they quite literally create the character. They deserve to be treated on the same scale as actors do, it's honestly fucked up that Hollywood actors can swoop in and take their roles right out from under them or that studios can just decide to axe a voice actor because the person started to think about their working rights. It's probably just our working climate here, since society in the west loves to demonize unions.

4:50 The thing is, he actually does. He's been rapidfiring his blocks out for years now. He didn't just start doing this now to try and silence any and all criticism coming his way, he's simply doing what he always does. Nick Robinson made a video detailing the history and reasoning behind all these blocks, even meeting up with Kamiya IRL at the end of the video. Wouldn't be suprising if this prompted him to start doing it more frequently though...

Not just VAs that are horribly underpaid, but manga/anime translators are, too. The rates for translating Jp > Eng for anything outside of the manga/anime industry is usually several times more, from what I remember. The "standard" rates for manga/anime kinda got set back when the people doing it were willing to be paid less because they were such big fans of the medium, & have never really improved.

Holy sh!t…….that’s completely insane. Voice actors are not given the credit they deserve.

On screen celebrities get majority of the budget for voicing animated characters because they are more marketable than anime English VA’s outside of their va circles. Talking to several English dub va’s at cons and meet and greets made me realize how much they strain themselves physically and mentally for voicing their roles.
They deserve better in the industry, especially since they depend on charging for autographs at public appearances.

The English VA of Mob psycho 100, Jujutsu Kaisen got paid $150 to $300. Remember this a top 5 anime and a moneymaker for crunchyroll.
The english VA got paid 65$! 65! For voicing the main character of Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood!
