Miss high school science? A theory is the highest status a hypothesis can get. Germ theory is still a theory, gravity is still a theory, and atomic theory is still a theory. Also, neanderthal lived less than 1 million years ago, these fossils are 2 million years old. Discovery of fossils depends not on how old they are, but on the environment in which the animals died, as well as the environment the fossils are today (ie we can't find fossils if they're not exposed enough for us to reach them)

Also Darwin being a racist is irrelevant to the debate at hand. We're talking about the explanation of why life is what it is today, not Darwin's racial prejudices
