The second volume in the adventures of red-haired Anne Shirley.

Anne plans to leave for college, but fate has other ideas — she stays in Avonlea to take care of Marilla, who is gradually losing her eyesight. She accepts a teaching position at the local school, makes new acquaintances among the villagers, and her newly founded Avonlea Village Improvement Society becomes increasingly active. Together with Marilla, Anne also decides to take in a pair of young twins, Davy and Dora, whose arrival brings even more joyful chaos into their lives.

Anne of Avonlea is not only a story about the amusing adventures of a teenager, but also about growing up and taking responsibility for loved ones.

The novel was first published in 1909 — just one year after Anne of Green Gables, which became an instant success, much to the surprise of Lucy Maud Montgomery herself. The publisher quickly signed the author for more books. The first Polish edition of Anne of Avonlea appeared in 1924.

How will the fate of this temperamental girl unfold? Will the Cuthberts want to keep her with them?

So Davy almost put his sister in real danger, being a little turd 💩, and getting excited at the thought of watching the chicken getting killed with its head being ripped off. To me that is a making of a killer. I it’s a story but Dolly would definitely be my favorite.SMH

I watched the TV adaptation nearly 30 years ago...damn...

A very pleasant voice, but rather new to reading aloud, I suspect. There are several mispronunciations and incorrect enunciations throughout that distract from the story. Nevertheless, it is wonderful to re-experiencing this series once a decade or so.
