I fixed this chair twice already over the past years and now I had to fix it again with 3D printing.

This is what I’m talking about. Part cost less than $2, even at high infill, and saved $100 for a new cheep chair (in the US).

use a hot air gun to melt the sanded parts back to its original color

I always enjoy watching this guy because he sounds like Luigi.

This is my favorite thing about 3d printing, hardly any company sells replacement parts and that whole chair would have been trashed but printing saved it!

I would recommend Bondo, a bit of sanding then spray painting to make FDM parts look like real plastic.

Doofenshmirtz has really chilled out in his old age.

Good to see 😊

I love how ppl are saying it's not worth it because of the time spent, when researching to find a chair that's not garbage, buying it, moving it into your space, disposing of the old one, etc. would take A LOT longer than CAD work for this part.

It's kinda wholesome how much this guy likes his chair

This is so cool. And over the years if u end up making more, but slightly changing them, it'll look like a cool lil cyberpunk chair with all different parts

For polishing it you can use any kind of heat source like heat gun, lighter, hair dryer... Etc .
It will shine like magic.

I use lighter to recover print color after sanding. It melts the exposed layers slightly and it turns the same color as the rest of the print. Just move the lighter quickly so that it doesn't leave black spot. Kerosine lighters like zippo are generally better than butane but not as accurate. You can also use acetone on abs for that purpose

A good black Asa can really turn out some clean prints. I do all forms of complex geometry, and my ASA structural prints tend to outperform, at a cost ( and speed of print) to Performance ratio, substantially more so.
I have several prints that have done some pretty hard weather while holding quite a bit of load. Outside in the sun, on concrete.

In case anyone doesn’t have access to a 3d printer technology: Chair legs are almost universally adaptable on the gas strut, you can get used legs for way less than a new chair.

They have replacement wheels with large rubber sections (much like wheels on a scooter or rollerblade) that works better for me on hard floors. I think they’re like $20, highly recommend.

Thank you for fixing your shit instead of just throwing it away like a lot of us do.

this is what we should do with new tech! Saved so much money and landfill waste by making one thing!! Love it

I really recommend sandpaper over a file, it looks like the grit on it was way too high to hide any scuff mark, and having it on paper allows to to fold it over the piece and sand over all of it at once. Time saved and cleaner result
