Herping σε Ελαιόρεμα και Χορτιάτη Μάιος 2023 - κονάκι, πηδοβάτραχος, γυρίνοι σαλαμάνδρας κι άλλα

Herping around Thessaloniki, Greece, May 2023. The first short excursion happened at Eleorema stream on May 12 with Vasilis. Marsh frogs (Pelophylax kurtmuelleri) were calling. I caught a metamorph of P. kurtmuelleri. Then I caught a juvenile Balkan pond turtle (Mauremys rivulata). Then two male P. kurtmuelleri. Under stones, we found a juvenile bent-toed gecko (Mediodactylus kotschyi). Sadly a roadkill toad was outside the park. Downstream, green toads (Bufotes viridis) were calling. A hedgehog (Erinaceus romanicus) appeared. Eggs of B. viridis had been laid in a small stream, as well as in the larger one. We caught a male B. viridis. On returning, we found a shed of a juvenile grass snake (Natrix natrix). Then we caught a female B. viridis. Invertebrates included the snails Helix lucorum and Eobania vermiculata, the slug Tandonia sowerbyi and the earthworm Octodrilus complanatus. The second excursion happened at Chortiatis mountain on May 19 with Vasilis and Spyros. The orchid Orchis mascula was first. Sadly stray dogs closed the road, and we needed to change direction. We found a little juvenile green lizard (Lacerta viridis). At the stream, we found the first larva of fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra). Also some small wood scorpions (Euscorpius solegladi). At the meadow, the bracken ferns (Pteridium aquilinum) were unfurling their leaves. At the stream and nearby ponds we found yellow-bellied toads (Bombina variegata), juvenile P. kurtmuelleri and a few S. salamandra tadpoles. Then we found a juvenile female slowworm (Anguis fragilis). Soon after, we caught a male agile frog (Rana dalmatina), and 6 more escaped. At the forest, invertebrates like the geophilomorph Himantarium gabrielis and the slug T. sowerbyi were present, and soon we found the orchid Neotia nidus-avis. Wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca) was in bloom and the fungus Geastrum sp had appeared. We continued with another juvenile P. kurtmuelleri. Small ponds were full of R. dalmatina and S. salamandra tadpoles. At a small pond, we found an amplectant pair of B. variegata. At the higher meadow, field crickets (Gryllus bimaculatus) were chirping, and we caught one female. Also the scarab Anoplotrupes stercorosus. Under a stone, we found a juvenile female common toad (Bufo bufo). The mushroom Armillaria mellea had infected some old beeches (Fagus sylvatica), but new seedlings were appearing. The last animal was the giant millipede Pachyiulus hungaricus.

Herping γύρω από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, Μάιος 2023. Η πρώτη μικρή εξόρμηση έγινε στο Ελαιόρεμα στις 12 του μηνός με τον Βασίλη. Οι βαλτοβάτραχοι (Pelophylax kurtmuelleri) κόαζαν. Έπιασα ένα μετάμορφο P. kurtmuelleri. Μετά έπιασα μια νεαρή αρσενική γραμμωτή νεροχελώνα (Mauremys rivulata). Μετά δύο αρσενικά P. kurtmuelleri. Κάτω από πέτρες, βρήκαμε ένα νεαρό κυρτοδάκτυλο γκέκο (Mediodactylus kotschyi). Δυστυχώς ένας πατημένος φρύνος ήταν έξω από το πάρκο. Πιο κάτω στο ρυάκι, οι πρασινόφρυνοι (Bufotes viridis) κόαζαν. Ένας σκαντζόχοιρος (Erinaceus romanicus) εμφανίστηκε. Αυγά του B. viridis είχαν αποτεθεί σε ένα μικρό ρυάκι όπως και στο μεγαλύτερο και υπήρχαν και γυρίνοι, οι οποίοι δεν καταγράφηκαν. Πιάσαμε ένα αρσενικό B. viridis. Στην επιστροφή, βρήκαμε το δέρμα ενός νεαρού νερόφιδου (Natrix natrix). Μετά πιάσαμε ένα θηλυκό B. viridis. Τα ασπόνδυλα περιελάμβαναν τα σαλιγκάρια Helix lucorum κι Eobania vermiculata, το γυμνοσάλιαγκα Tandonia sowerbyi και το γεωσκώληκα Octodrilus complanatus. Η δεύτερη εξόρμηση έγινε στο Χορτιάτη στις 19 Μαΐου με τον Βασίλη και τον Σπύρο. Η πρώτη ορχιδέα ήταν η Orchis mascula. Δυστυχώς τα αδέσποτα σκυλιά μας έκλεισαν το δρόμο και αναγκαστικά αλλάξαμε πορεία. Βρήκαμε μια μικρή νεαρή πρασινόσαυρα (Lacerta viridis). Στο ρυάκι, βρήκαμε την πρώτη προνύμφη σαλαμάνδρας (Salamandra salamandra). Επίσης μαύροι σκορπιοί Euscorpius solegladi). Στο λιβάδι, οι φτέρες (Pteridium aquilinum) ξετύλιγαν τα φύλλα τους. Στο ρυάκι και τις κοντινές λίμνες βρήκαμε μπομπίνες (Bombina variegata), νεαρά P. kurtmuelleri και λίγους γυρίνους S. salamandra. Μετά βρήκαμε ένα νεαρό θηλυκό κονάκι (Anguis fragilis). Σύντομα μετά, πιάσαμε έναν αρσενικό πηδοβάτραχο (Rana dalmatina), κι άλλοι 6 ξέφυγαν. Στο δάσος, ασπόνδυλα όπως το γεωφιλόμορφο Himantarium gabrielis κι ο γυμνοσάλιαγκας T. sowerbyi, Σύντομα βρήκαμε την ορχιδέα Neotia nidus-avis. Η αγριοφράουλα (Fragaria vesca) ήταν σε ανθοφορία κι ο μύκητας Geastrum sp είχε βγει. Τα λιμνία ήταν γεμάτα με γυρίνους R. dalmatina και S. salamandra. Σε ένα λιμνίο, βρήκαμε ζευγάρι B. variegata σε εναγκαλισμό. Στο ψηλότερο λιβάδι, οι γρύλλοι του αγρού (Gryllus bimaculatus) τερέτιζαν, και πιάσαμε ένα θηλυκό. Επίσης ο σκαραβαίος Anoplotrupes stercorosus. Κάτω από πέτρα, βρήκαμε έναν νεαρό θηλυκό χωματόφρυνο (Bufo bufo). Το μανιτάρι Armillaria mellea είχε μολύνει κάποιες γέρικες οξιές (Fagus sylvatica), αλλά εμφανίζονταν νέα σπορόφυτα. Το τελευταίο ζώο ήταν μια νεαρή χιλιοποδαρούσα (Pachyiulus hungaricus).
