✨🎬 In this episode we demonstrate James Hoffmann's Ultimate AeroPress Technique.

This simple, quick and tasty recipe from James removes many AeroPress misconceptions such as rinsing your paper filter and preheating your AeroPress. James also prefers to swirl, not stir.

This recipe is a great starting point for any AeroPress enthusiast - once you get it wired, use it as a base for other recipe experiments.

FYI, the water temp we use here is for light roast coffee. For medium roast, try 90-95°C water; For dark roast, try 85-90°C water.

🟦 Recipe Overview at 0:06

🟨 Prep:
- Set brewer in standard position on a server.
- Don't rinse the paper filter or preheat the brewer.

🟩 Recipe full steps:
1. Start a timer, add 200mL water, aiming to wet all the coffee.
2. Immediately place the plunger on to stop the coffee from dripping.
3. Wait 2 minutes.
4. Holding the brewer and the plunger, gently swirl the brewer.
5. Wait 30 seconds.
6. Gently press all the way, it takes about 30 seconds.

Enjoy!

For those would like an inverted version of this recipe to prevent dripping:

1. Start with inverted position, add 200g water as usual
2. at 2:00, gently stir with Aeropress paddle few times (inverted position is rather difficult to swirl, but you can try)
3. Flip the Aeropress and press at 2:30, finishing at around 3:00

I found this method creates even more extraction because of zero dripping, more sweet notes extracted even using the same grind and water temp. Worth a try!

I just made my first ever aeropress cup using this recipe and I absolutely loved it!

Now I can finally enjoy great coffee at home as I would do in a local coffee place! I even used the beans I bought at my favorite coffee place

This is my go-to Aeropress recipe. Loads and loads of clarity, very clean, and a decent body. Really lets the beans stand out compared to some other recipes that use a much higher coffee to water ratio.

Thanks for this! Just got my Aeropress and made my first cup. Delicious! James Hoffmann really knows his coffee.

Some debugging tips for people having trouble: the grind is key here. I start halfway between pourover and espresso grind and adjust accordingly.

Too sour -> decrease grind size
Too bitter / astringent -> increase grind size, or decrease water temperature if darker roast (i simply let my kettle sit for 5-10 mins after boiling)
Too weak -> can increase ratio, but only once you've already played with the grind size and are happy with extraction. I find 13g / 200ml gets a really nice cup.

Most importantly, only change one thing at a time!

As a dude who doesnt know coffee but googles why my coffee from shops sometimes tastes weird. I wonder if the initial drippage wouldnt be underextracted and add suboptimal flavor. But its all good to me.

PS just got an aeropress yesterday and made cups for myself, my gf and her brother. 3 thumbs up. As a travel nurse, this will be clutch, pay for itself within a month given the price of coffee elsewhere. Probably avg $3 per cup between McDs, Starbucks, and the Hospital. Prly avg 1.5cups a day or $135/mo from shops, whereas, $31 +$36 for aero plus ground coffee from a shop is <$70 and the coffee doesnt taste weird. Excellent value.

I didnt even factor in the now heavily peer pressured %15 tip at every service counter in America.

Just tried this for the first time. Very impressed with the taste. Was using a light roast Ethiopian bean with a fine grind. only thing I did differently was to stir once before attaching the plunger. Curious to try this method with different ratios next time. Great cup though

The recipe is good, but since i used medium roast therefore I brought down the water temp to 75 degrees. The result is great cup of full body coffee. ❤ was wondering what if i use the metal filter along with the paper filter? Will try it out soon

very good recipe, I started with this today, i will try different grinding next days. Aeropress really give a taste between pour over and moka pot (if you don't put all the recipe in coffee but at 3/4 for example). Not so loose than pour over, not too strong like moka pot. Interesting.

I started with aeropress Go. Seems perfect to travel alone everywhere. If I like the aeropress, I think I will buy XL version for family. I think my newbie family to coffee will like very well the aeropress taste ! Seems impossible to them to drink a pour over coffee and moka pot don't give a lot of coffee and sometimes seems too hard for them.

Works great, especially with a pressure actuated valve that keeps the water from leaking out early

That looks like tea, just like what I got when I tried this method after getting my Aeropress. I use 12 grams of coffee and 100 of water, I honestly can't understand how come people claim to get good results with the ratios I see mentioned online.

This recipie makes my beans taste soooo good, and it shows me that what I actually want from my Aeropress is espresso.

Or, to prevent dripping, use prismo. Now we can use flow control. For people who loves to bloom, you can bloom first then put the rest of the water and follow the rest of the instruction.

You can make brewing simple or complex using aeropress. It's a versatile equipment

Is the 30s press time: just 30 seconds on the coffee, or 30 seconds till the bottom?

If I add 250g of water to fill the press, is it as simple as using 14g of beans?
