In this video I break down the difference between the stock logic compression types so that you can know which one to use on different tracks in your mix. These stock compressors are emulations of well known equipment that has been used for years. But does it matter which one you use on vocals verse drums? Should you be using specific compressors on specific tracks? The answer is actually pretty simple.

One technique I stumbled on while doing some research was to use VCAs on vocal tracks, and apply a gentle Opto to the mix bus. I tried it out when mixing a live recording where the band's mic techniques weren't so great, causing slightly lumpy vocals. The Opto helped smooths out the vocals and gives them a really natural sound.

Well in the early 90's my friend and I produced some pretty successful electronic music tunes. We didn't even know zbout comoressors, yet these tracks sound fat, bold and better than many "pro"stuff from nowadays.

Not quite true in my experience- the logic FET compressor are still much faster than the opto compressors even though both are tweakable
