If people NEED context on an almost 100 year old it shows how pathetic society has become. And how erasing history is only going to make it worse.

She was the first black person to win an Oscar. Why on earth would you get rid of it?

Trying to rewrite history is not the solution! This subsequently erases the struggles black people went through at the time and in the film industry. It’s important that we are all aware of it moving forward so it doesn’t happen anymore.

Pulling "Gone with the Wind" is the dumbest decision ever made. The film is a piece of American film history. Removing it is equivalent to book burning.

Boycotting movies, books, sounds like how ww2 started. You can’t change history, . You can change your mind.

Whoopie hit the nail on the head 30 seconds in. If you start removing fictional films because they aren't historically accurate we're gonna be left with about 20 movies. It's a ridiculous precedent to set.

Plus, Mammy was the smartest and wisest person in the movie. She may have been a 'servant' but she didn't shy away from telling Scarlett, Rhett or anyone else what to do !

History is history - no time machine exists to change it. If you ignore it - it will be repeated !

Censorship is never the answer. You can't deny history; it's important to evaluate history and learn from it.

HBO Max could have just removed Gone with the Wind and not said anything, and probably no one would have noticed, because not that many people even have HBO Max yet. They just wanted publicity.

Oh for crying out loud people we are talking about a movie that is 81 years old let’s just leave it alone

I absolutely agree with Whoopi. I love gone with the wind and I'm black. I love the story of the movie. I love old movies and it's ironic honestly. And if we get rid of one movie then we have to get rid of almost all the movies before the 21st century.

Retroactively applying the morals of today to a film that was made when Betty White was 17 is intellectually bankrupt.
Films depicting racism, dont necessarily support it. It was the first film to ever land an Academy Award for a black actor.

Gone with the Wind is not a documentary, so why think it should be exactly historically accurate? This canceling makes me think of book burning. Not good.

I am black, l love Gone With the Wind. It gave me a glimpse into the mind of people who own slaves and how superior some people felt. Clark Gable did a fine performance of a man in love that wanted to do the right thing. Was l brainwash or what?( Keep it up) Clark Gable stood up for blacks it was said that he had black blood in his background.

Hattie McDaniel was the first black person to win an Oscar for her role. Yes she played a stereotypical role based on today's standards, but back then there were different standards

Was made 60 years ago, that's 2 generations. Stop living in the past. Watch it or don't watch it. Should be a choice.
