This video is kinda dumb and misleading. It compared a group of people who were "invited" to colonoscopy vs. a group that was not. They say the invited group did not do as well as expected with only minimal benefit. They didn't really emphasize that the "invited" group incldued lots of people who DIDN'T EVEN get a colonscopy. But when they compared the people who actually DID get a colonoscopy to those who did not, it cut the risk of colon cancer by 31% and of dying from that cancer by 50%. This is bad journalism.

So colonoscopy screening on only works if you have been screened???? WTF did I just listen too

The video starts with the anchor saying that this new study has thrown colonoscopies into question by showing that there's only an 18% cancer benefit and a 0% mortality benefit and ends by saying that there's a 31% cancer benefit and a 50% mortality benefit. Did I misunderstand or did they just try to gaslight me?

Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices. Fasting should be investigated as a treatment for disease.

Wow. What needs to be clearly stated is the absolute risk and relative risk. Yes the relative risk decreased by 18%. But thats because the risk is 1.2% in the non colonscopy group, and 0.98% in the colonoscopy group. So yes if you compare those two its 18%. But the ABSOLUTE RISK difference is 0.22%. This is what the pharma companeis do all the time, and sometimes they campaign and dramatically misrepresent benefits of some of their treatments. Its important to educate patients on RELATIVE RISK and ABSOLUTE risk. Presenting data is important, and if you say decreases chance by 18% then some patients might assume its absolute risk, but its actually relative risk.

How can a colonoscopy be of no benefit to people who had their growing cancer detected in early stages during a colonoscopy that otherwise would have been detected when it's too late?
It's a good thing when it's found that a colonoscopy provided no benefit because it confirmed an individual didn't have colon cancer.

My BIL died from a colonoscopy, he went home feeling bad and that night he bled out on the toilet.

Of course they work. Massive profits for healthcare industry, easy low-risk procedure. Prices of colonoscopies have increased exponentially, especially since they moved from gastro physician office to big monopoly hospital medical facility.

My father died at 61 from a particularly aggressive form of colon cancer. It had already metastasized when it was found.
I had my first colonoscopy soon after at 38. Every colonoscopy found polyps. My last 2 scopes found polyps with abnormal, but not yet considered precancerous. These polyps are known to develop into colon cancer if not removed.
My son has crohns disease plus he is a recent hodgkin's lymphoma survivor. He at high risk of colon cancer. One of his crohns meds has a secondary benefit of reducing colon cancer risk.

Never had one, never will. My body had a terrible reaction to a endoscopic procedure for kidney stones. Led some muscles to go into spasm, and nearly two years later, it still isn’t quite right. So for that reason, anything ending with “oscopy” is a no-go for me.

it means that Doctors who discover cancer in colonoscopies are not capable of curing cancer if discovered by colonoscopy. hence there is no change in the death rate of those who take colonoscopy.

I used to work at a facility that performs colonoscopies. I can attest to many patients who waited too long past age to have one, and they were discovered to have colon cancer. They need to lower the age that insurance will cover them...I had a 48 year old son in law with stage 4 colon cancer and a daughter at the same age with the same diagnosis. He passed away and age 52 and she is still fighting for her life at age 50. The physicians say it takes about 10 years for a gastric polyp to get to stage 4 which means theirs began at age 38. Neither of them had any severe symptoms that we thought were possibly IBS that I have had for years. No bleeding, colon issues, pain...etc. Also, my husband has to go every 3 years to have one because he is a pre cancer polyp maker. It has saved his life...now 72.

I worked in the cafeteria at a hospital & everytime I ate the food I would become extreme gassy or my stomach would hurt. One of the cooks told me that the pre-made soups/meat were THE worse food to eat health wise. High in sodium & junk added to it. I was stunned. This food was going to ICU, women who just gave birt, surgery patients...EVERYONE was receiving it!!! Dont get me started on the fried food & rich/sugary cakes & pies that were sold as well!!
