We Hungarians still often cheer up someone who just made a mistake with the phrase "Don't worry, much more was lost at Mohács.".

The Ottoman empire of the first half of the 16th century was an absolute juggernaut destroying the Mamluk Sultanate and Hungary, wrecking an enormous Holy League at Preveza, and trashing the Safavids at Chaldiran

I heard that when The Ottoman Sultan saw how young the Hungarian King was he lamented how young he was and expressed regret at him not experience a full life. Great video.

The Battle of Mohacs is Suleiman's first and last face-to-face battle . Because after this war no one dared to appear in front of him again. The battle of Mohacs lasted only two hours. Ottoman war machine is perfect.

In most turkic battles, seljucks, ottomans etc. involved, there is a main theme of faint retreat. It can be seen in most prominent battles...From mankizert to mohacs... They used feint retreat, to distrupt or to lessen the impact of heavy cavalry charge, to distrupt advancing lines so that gaps would occur where cavalry would infiltrate, flank or wear down and guide the main enemy force to a distinctively selected area. In this case, Hungarian main cavalry was guided to kill zone of artillery, arrow and Janissary muskets. Ottoman historical records mention like this, how ever most western sources recorded these as initial Hungarian successes. Actually this really shows how disciplined ottoman army was and how well did the job that under heavy pressure. The trick of the feint retreat is not to let enemy realize that the retreat is feint. It is exceptionally difficult to do it. Hannibal could do it Cannae with great success. To this day, Hungarians thought that they had the upper hand. However, any one gone through Ottoman archives and investigate the battles, they could see how ottomans excelled this art of battle. Ottomans for years, one after another decisively crushed Christians armies. If you listened these channels, ottomans won these battles at the last round, mostly by luck, superior numbers, a betrayal of some of subordinates, or arrogance of some faction. It always stated the initial successes of christian armies. However, whatever the reason mentioned, in the end of most of these battles Ottomans mostly annihilate the opposing forces, killing major commanders, even kings, staying owning the battlefield. This can only be achieved if the enemy is encircled. Ottomans in most major battles could achieve this.

Fun fact: I was in school in the good ol' 80's and when it came to learn about our loss at Mohács, we were told that Tomori charged (so far okay) in the center (apparently not) with the infantry (he definitely did not lead them, according to the video) and the Ottomans feigned retreat leading him and his troops in front of their cannons. Now, at 46, I have to face the fact that we actually charged at the cannons without any trickery from the Turks. Noice. It's an interesting feeling learning how you knew something fundamental wrong for almost 4 decades...

I was hoping you would make this video!!! I am going to share it with my students this spring when I teach my history of the Middle East class. I mention the battle, but don't have time in a survey course to go into this detail.

I have a recommendation for upcoming videos. They would be perfect when you would show us how the soldiers looked like (like in your thumbnails). It's sometimes hard to imagine it with just the name of the troops. When you speak about Teutonic Knights for example then show a picture how they looked like for a few seconds.

Other than that your videos are amazing.

The great Sultan, after the dawn prayer, gave a powerful sermon to the army. Among what he said, Paradise is before you: if you are martyred, and if you kill your enemy, he will be in Hell Be steadfast and victory will be yours..

This page always uses the same style when describing the wars won by the Turks. He explains it as if the Turks could not have won without the internal conflicts of the side they were fighting against, but they won because they could not be united. The truth of the matter is that Turkish armies were the most overwhelming power in the world at that time. For example, there are LoL games that last longer than the Battle of Mohács that he describes.
Note: I used translate because I don't know English, I hope it translated correctly.
