Though not what was in mind when this beautiful song was written, it reminds me of my daughter- who ended up dying the day she was born. I’d do it all over again just for the chance to hold her that one time. I think creating a piece of art that can be held so close by so many is what Hozier does best. ❤

Initially thought this song was from Francesca's perspective but hearing Hozier say this song also gives a voice to Paolo, I realized that not only could it be from both perspectives but the "I would do this a million times. There's no life in which I make any other choice but to love you" is universal and timeless.

This song came at the perfect time in my life. My girlfriend was diagnosed with a chronic disorder that is a pretty big shake up for our lives. This song helped me express to her what she means to me and that nothing can keep me from loving her. Thank you Hozier.

I love the poem but there is something in how Andrew shifted it into his tale of love without shame. I like that regardless of their ruin, they would refuse to apologise or regret it because it was a love that was worth suffering for. The punishment doesn't change the experience. It's a great thing that Hozier didn't go all out in the first album, he would've had no room for growth and exhausted himself too quickly. The first album was great, the second was better without diminishing the first, and the current album showcases his range and growth while staying true to his sound.
