Cactus Forests of the Carribean and Cyclura ricordii

What kind of anchoring does it take for monstrous tree cacti to be able to grow on raw limestone karst in the tropics containing little top soil? Are giant Prickly Pear Trees evving red flowers as a result of pollination by Antillean hummingbirds? What morphological nuances differentiate #Dendrocereus from #Leptocereus? Has an endangered #Cyclura ever been inside a Jewel-Osco? What does being stung by the endemic Hispaniolan Wasp feel like? What does the arrest record of Agave antillarum look like?

Your contributions support this content. It sounds clichéd, but it's true. Whether it's travel expenses, vehicle repair, or medical costs for urushiol poisoning (or rockfalls, beestings, hand slices, toxic sap, etc), your financial support allows this content to continue so the beauty of Earth's flora can be made accessible to the rest of us in the degenerate public. At a time when so much is disappearing beneath the human footprint, CPBBD is willing to do whatever it takes to document these plant species and the ecological communities they are a part of before they're gone for good.

Came for the cool plants, stayed for the speculation of possible future coevolution between cacti and hummingbird pollinators. That's that good shit.

The 'coevolution between the plant and extinct megafauna' thing is SO cool. Wow. I love the way you see the natural world.

I got to meet Dan Janzen in college, he was the scientist who first proposed the idea of the Megafauna dispersal theory. Cool video!

Thank you for showing this. Had no idea The Dominican Republic had such dry regions. Botany, geology and geography all in one. Love it.

Yep, been there with the wasp to the knee. A Yellowjacket got me. I always carried Benedryl when I worked outdoors for just such an emergency. 🐝

Thank you, Tony/Joey. Your videos are always a highlight of my week. I hope you'll show up on an oak savanna here in MN sometime.

There were a few times when I was starting to feel myself get pricked while watching. This man has either immense bravery or no fear. Then he walks around after getting stung by wasps and still saying "beautiful wasps" which speaks volumes of praise about his character given that he can compliment his attacker sincerely

I love that you know your plant names and actually post them for us. Also that you have enough personality to crack jokes and curse. You're awesome brother! Keep the content rolling! 👍🌳🌳🌳😎

Would love to see you take a trip to Peru and check out the native plants of the valley and then the Amazon; just figured I’d throw the idea out there ;)

Humming Birds are amazing creatures, my Mother in south-central Ky sets up feeders for them in the summer which now attracts a large amount, they've become accustomed to them. They're so quick and agile they really have no natural predators. You'll get a Male that decides a particular feeder is his, and combats other Hummers and will work itself to exhaustion to keep others away. The first time I ever heard Hummers vocalize when you get a stand off between two just hovering there.
