Hey everyone, so in this video we talk about how to prepare for end game of the ARKS scenario. I had a lot of fun replaying the scenario and I am looking forward to doing more. This week I will be posting my full gameplay on how to beat it with and without saving New Manchester so keep an eye out for that.

Next week we move on to The Refugees!

This was the tactic for me. At the end I had ~20k coal, ~1000 food, and plenty of other resources. Saved New Manchester. Had about 5 days left until the storm. Was on easy, though:
1. Build Gathering posts, until you deplete the resources available. Dismantle them after;
2. Build Tents/Medical post/Cookhouse/Workshops. I had 3 workshops with 15 engineers at the end, and most of the game, but you can start with 1 or 2. Workshops should be working 14h shifts the whole game. If they argue with you, just ignore them. Make a Public House + Moonshine to manage discontent. Tents are later upgraded into Bunkhouses and Houses;
3. Make the Beacon, and work towards having 2 Scout teams of people. Later you can have a 3rd Scout Automaton. I didn't have 4 scouts and I scouted everything. 4 scout teams is too much. Gather steam cores;
4. Make Coal mines/Wall Drills/Steelworks/Hothouses for resources. I had 1 regular Hothouse most of the game, and upgraded it near the end to finish the food quota. When you gather lots of steam cores, make automatons, and upgrade the resource buildings. It is very important to upgrade your resource buildings;
5. There are lots of trees on the map, so make Steam Sawmills, and upgrade them, to increase wood gathering. When you finish gathering trees, dismantle the Sawmills;
6. Excess wood can be made into coal. Make Charcoal Kilns and upgrade them. Watch the wood economy! You should always have a positive wood production rate. If your wood production is negative because of the Kilns, dismantle some Kilns until it is positive. The economy button shows how much wood you are making, and how much you are giving into the Kilns. Don't make Coal Thumpers/Gathering posts, because they require too many automatons, and you will have plenty of coal at the end, anyways;
7. Make resource Depos throughout the game to make space for new resources.
8. I heated the Arks only using the heaters (but upgraded ones) and I didn't use Steam Hubs to heat them. Kept them chilly throughout the game.

At the end, all your Resources Buildings should be maxed out, and you should have an automaton on each one of them. At the end I made some Industrial Hothouses (had 2 of them at the end). One cookhouse, working 14h shifts, making soup, is enough to turn these resources into Food Rations. If you need steam cores, and you have too many automatons, you can dismantle them. Prioritize upgrading the resource buildings, over making more Automatons.

My Resource buildings were: 2xAdvanced Coal Mine, 2xAdvanced Steelworks, 1xAdvanced Wall Drill, 2xIndustrial Hothouse, 1xCharcoal Kiln. I dismantled all the Sawmills, and the other Kilns, because I gathered all the trees, and needed more Steam Cores to upgrade the buildings, so I dismantled some of the Automatons.

I didn't use Automatons in Cookhouses/Medical Posts/Workshops, because you have enough people to do those jobs, but all resource buildings were manned by Automatons.

Somewhere in the game, some guy will get trampled by an automaton, and they will ask you to slow them down. Don't slow them down. Just make prosthesis for each incident. They are cheap. Also, give time for the engineer to upgrade the Automaton efficiency.

Thx for continuing to support this game Ryfi. It's STILL criminally underrated. Probably because the console ports UI is god awful. But on PC one of the best CIV/SIMs in recent memory. Keep up the good work great guide super helpful!

I realized early on that i didn't have to care about heating the seeds but still ended with not enough coal or food to win after saving New Manchester. I honestly thought it was impossible to do both.

So glad people make content for frostpunk

Great vid and proper helpful. Thanks Ryfi, hit the L and S straight off the bat when I heard you're clearly a Lanc!
Got really far with this last night then ran out of coal because I was focussed on the Thumpers - I know what to do now.
Will check out your Refugees vid as well, as that one has given me headaches n all.

On my first attempt on this map, I lost by 20 coals and the seeds perished. Second try, I saved the Arks and New Manchester.

my issue with The Arks scenario is that i simply cannot gather enough coal. I end up crossing the -60° threshhold with 2 coal mines, a coal thumper, and 2 gathering posts for the thumper, manned by 5 still run out of coal.

It feels impossible because im investing EVERYTHING into heat and coal production and its still just not enough.

Most important thing in this map is to use coal mines, the automatons make it worth it, I literally had 10 automatons running around by the end, and at my max range and power I was in the positive for coal economy. In conclusion STEAM COAL MINES ARE BUSTED

I';m only just now playing Frostpunk and came across this video after failing Arks twice. Not needing to heat until -60 degrees is the real tip. beat the mission on the first try once I knew that because it allowed me to save so much coal early. Couldn't save Manchester though. did the first quest but couldn't get enough food rations together for them for the second quest. oh well.

Question: I'm trying to play this scenario and save new Manchester, but I can't figure out how to send the supplies of wood steel and the automaton. The scouts don't take it. Is there something else I need to make that I'm missing? Thank you for any help

I'd say Radical Treatment is better than Sustain Life. Basically run everything with just a medical post, and ignore the Infirmary and it's techs. Save the steam core for another Automaton. Also this is the scenario where you can skip the improved house design. With only five houses needed? You only save a bit of steel.

I haven't played the other scenarios to change my opinion, which is this scenario is the most frustrating.
