Some tips about Calibre Software together with Kindle e-Readers

Amazon Kindle eReaders works great with the Calibre eBook Organisation Software on a computer. Both wirelessly (what I prefer) and with a cable. Kindle e-Readers is not locked down as many thinks. They are as open as Kobo eBook Readers. You can easily use different eBook Formats with a Kindle. ePub, KFX, AZW3, TXT, PDF, HTML, MOBI (I don't recommend that format) and many more. And ePub is a preferable format. I recommend you to store all your eBooks as ePub. Use the plugin Modify ePub to optimise them for your Kindle device. Use KEPUB format for your Kobo device. Use KFX if you want to sideload with a cable to your Kindle. But if you sideload with a cable the books will not be synced between all your devices. That's why you should always transfer your books wirelessly to your Kindle.

Thank you! I didn't know there was a wireless transfer option with the app. But so far I have sent books via cable and Calibre automatically converted them to azw3. Maybe it's a current thing.

Can you link to the video you mention about sending via email from Calibre? I can't seem to find the right video from your channel. I'm having trouble with this and wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I had not been able to do this on my Paperwhite 2021 using Calibre. I installed the latest version of Calibre, restarted my PC, & the program had disappeared! I clicked its Setup file & reinstalled. Then, I was able to side load some non-Amazon books from my PC to my Paperwhite & my Scribe & see them on my Home screen! I tried more books, but they did not show up on my Calibre, not even in a search. Calibre showed that they are on my device.

Hi, thank you ver much for your great work. Unfortunately I still have a problem with Calibre. I don't see any plugin nor any way to add one. I looked every menu or item I see but nothing. I'd like to try the KEPUB format since I own a Kobo. Can you help please. Thanks again

Do the newer kindle devices use EPUB? My wife's only uses MOBI. She just got a new one I haven't gotten to set up for her yet.

Do these all go into the kindle app as documents though and not books? On kindle web version it shows as documents when I send epubs.

Hi, I don't currently have a kindle but thinking about buying one. I heard that you can have a audiobook on Kindle. So if you own the audiobook version and the normal kindle version do those come up as 2 separate books in your library or comes up as 1 and syncs up where you left of? I'm thinking about pirating my books to get the files then transferring my books via calibre but I'm just curious if it's possible to do audiobooks as well and if they sync with the normal kindle text version. Thanks

I don't have the "modify epub" option. Is that in the newest version? Or is there a special circumstance where that option comes up?

I didn't connect to the internet with my ereader for a while, I did it just now, and what happened was that with the new update (new graphical outlook and everything, very nice), it also massively complicated my library.

Before the update I simply transferred files from Calibre to my Kindle and it would display

first name last name for the authors, but SORT by last name.

Now it does sort by last name, but displays "last name, first name" which I find immensely annoying. Is there any way to get it to display first name last name on kindle but sort by last name as on the Calibre library on the pc?

Hi,
I have had a kindle for more than 10 years and also the Calibre. Yesterday I wanted to send some new books I bought from Calibre to my kindle. I always use cable. I could not see the “send to” bottom anymore? I tried lots of things without success. There is a new layout since an upgrade, but it should not mean that I cannot send via cable. I don’t know my e-mails anymore and I can’t find codes for Amazon- any good ideas? I will be very happy to get help. Thanks a lot - kind regards Tina
