If you were hoping for a dramatic reinvention of EA’s soccer sim to go along with ditching the FIFA name, EA Sports FC 24 is not that. If you’ve played FIFA, you know exactly what kind of incremental improvements and longstanding problems with AI to expect this year. New mechanics like Evolutions show that EA has a general grasp of how to improve its RPG elements, even if it’s only currently for Ultimate Team where you have to put up with all of the dreaded microtransactions. Elsewhere, Volta mode is still a lot of fun with a full team of friends thanks in part to its unique arenas, while the Career Modes once again suffer from the same lack of care they’ve been missing for years, with the added annoyance of some ill-conceived RNG-based objectives this time. All told, it might have a new name, but EA Sports FC 24 is just about the same, frustrating but beautiful game.

We are all stuck in the darkest timeline for sports gaming. How did we let one company monopolise like this and just churn out the same insulting barely iterative nonsense year after year?

There must be some other studio, indie or otherwise, brave enough to bring out another football game. Not you, Konami.

Defending in this game is insanely bad and unresponsive. It's better to let AI block the shots than attempting a tackle. Trying to disposess an opponent is like trying to swat mosquitos in complete darkness (there's a chance you hit but it's highly unlikely).

Played the trial. It still seems like defenders are so slow/clunky when they are on the turn and a ball is played in behind. Defining in the game still feels broken

how EA makes sport games:
step-1 go to your most recent sport game release
step-2 select it and press ctrl + C
step-3 press ctrl + V
Step-4 the hardest step out of them, rename the new release's year to the most recent release's year + 1
step-5 profit

Been playing Fifa for a long time and enjoyed many years of clubs along with getting 100% trophies every year but with the name change is a chance to ditch the series and move on, EA havent cared about their customers for a long time, its creeping into other sports games too like PGA Golf and F1

There is literally no reason to buy sports games new at launch. Wait 4 months, there will be a massive price cut, then get the game. But honestly, if you have a recent edition from the last 4 years, there is no reason to upgrade.

This feels like a proper review until your editor in Chief decided to change it to a 7 at the last minute after the credit alert came in from EA.
The game is a 4 at best and that is generous because it's a yearly release.
