For the price, you can get more than one mic to line level input Mic-Pre unit. It's not really adding anything extra or any characteristics, ie. distortion knob, saturation etc.

Sound Speeds did a pretty good test of this unit about 9 months ago, which seemed to show this is extremely quiet... -134dB, which is below theoretical EIN limit. Is this correct? How would this compare to a Focusrite ISA Preamp? Also, do you know what kind of power supply is needed to power this unit? It is a 9v DC 1A?

Unless I’m missing something, it seems that this preamp is mostly intended to be used in a similar way to inline gain boosters, like the Cloudlifter…
The specs for the preamp say that the available gain is 75db, and that would certainly be sufficient for using low output dynamic and ribbon mics (and way more enough than what a condenser mic would require)…
But, the amount of gain a preamp has doesn’t mean much, if it’s also introducing noticeable circuitry noise when the input is maxed out to reach that desired gain amount (usually the result of cheap internal components)…
And, I’m not implying that this preamp is bad in that way; I’ve never used it, so I can’t say, but cheaper preamps usually have cheap internal circuitry (to keep them in an affordable price range, which, at $99 is certainly affordable) but which can also add a noticeable amount of noise as they are gained up to reach the gain that the specs sheets say the unit has available.
Maybe this pre would be fine for using low output mics, and at $99, it’s a great deal…if it’s not noisy.
FWIW 🙏

Hi Marco. Interesting you mentioned that the Mytek ADC96 is your best converter. Have you compared it against the RME?

Hi Marco, do you happen to know what the input impedance is for the Rodyweil preamp?

Thanks for the in dept review. I might say i don't fully understand what you concluded from this but it's due to my knowledge limitation on this subject.

Either way, I bought this Rodyweil preamp and I'm not quite sure if it's improvement is clear enough for me.

Would you mind helping me? I don't like how loud the preamps on the Zoom H5 are so now my audio chain is Dynamic/Condenser mic connected to the Rodyweil then connected to the Zoom H5 through the Balanced out XLR.

I've crancked the Rodyweil to 40-50 ish and the Zoom to 3 or 4.

It gives a significantly loud recording but not a lot of improvement in noise.

Am I doing something wrong? Would be glad if you could help me out Marco 😅
